Job Description
A Researcher III position is available in NREL’s Materials, Chemical, and Computational Science (MCCS) directorate in transient laser spectroscopy of molecular/polymeric organic and hybrid organic-inorganic systems for photoelectrical and photochemical conversion processes. The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team investigating novel excited-state photophysical and photochemical processes in chemical systems that include metal-organic coordination complexes, polyaromatic organic chromophores, and hybrid organic-inorganic architectures. Primary duties will involve developing and using instrumentation for transient spectroscopic studies of photo-excited state dynamics, including the use of pulsed femtosecond laser systems and the development of transient spectroelectrochemical measurements. Experience in spectroscopic data analysis, fitting, and kinetic modelling is essential. The candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated strong publication record, including ability to drive preparation of publications.
This position will also require a strong focus on the maintenance, stewardship, and safety management related to the core laser systems and laboratories devoted to these experimental efforts. The ability to work and collaborate with a team, including both internal and external partners, that includes synthetic chemists, computational scientists, and other experimentalists is required. The successful candidate will also be expected to work independently to drive their research projects forward with limited supervision and be committed to the development of new research directions. A proven dedication to mentoring, training, and professional development of junior researchers is also desired. The successful candidate should therefore have experience in a variety of experimental techniques which may include:
1. Ultrafast transient spectroscopic techniques
2. Transient Spectroelectrochemical techniques
3. Steady-state and transient photoluminescence spectroscopy and/or microscopy
