- Identify data from multiple sources and conduct comprehensive analysis of ridership/revenue/route efficiency on a regular basis, including the generation of monthly and annual ridership reports;
- Forecast annual ridership trends and route analysis to ensure route efficiency and make recommendations to the Planner and Scheduler;
- With a deep understanding of the data and departmental objectives, take the initiative to identify, suggest and present insight to colleagues;
- Analyze ridership and fare data/media to monitor and project revenue and passenger response to proposed fare structures and route changes;
- Assist in the preparation of the annual scheduled mileage and platform hours budget;
- Assist in forecasting hours of service, operational requirements, ridership and revenue projections for new, revised and extended routes;Work alongside Finance to understand revenue patterns and identify outliers;
- Complete all statistical analysis for external agencies such as CUTA, Stats Can, etc.;
- Support the development of the general and detailed database design either directly or through a project team;
- Work closely with the Planning Team to assist in feasibility studies. For instance, in the analysis of land use, population projections and employment data to evaluate the impact of new community development on transit services;
- Acts as the lead and/or subject matter expert on cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize actionable high-impact insights by designing, developing and deploying algorithms through statistical programming;
- Provide prescriptive and predictive analytics and solutions to address trends and impacts, complex business and service issues and/or identifies new opportunities as a direct result of findings. Validates analysis by comparing appropriate samples and employs appropriate algorithms to discover patterns;
- Identify opportunities to increase data quality, including automation, data entry and data collection procedures;
- Develop understandable presentations of complex content for management and staff;
- Work closely with business users to define, design and deliver effective data visualizations;
- Create and continuously improve on a repository of reusable data visualization templates and views;
- Develop and deliver customized training on analytics platform to enable self-serve capabilities;
- Assist in route development and revisions/extensions to existing routes and services (such as On Demand);
- Researches best practices and emerging methodologies related to data mining, machine learning, and big data.;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Completion of a three-year Diploma or Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Information Management, Data Collection and Analysis, or similar analytical disciplines;
- At least 3 years related experience;
- Experience in a transit environment is an asset.
- Communicates with others to determine their needs as well as the ability to present reports to all levels of the organization;
- Demonstrated effective communication, both oral and written, customer service, complex problem solving, research and data analysis, active listening and the ability to ask the right questions;
- Ability to meet critical deadlines and to prioritize tasks and requirements from internal and external resources;
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.

Under the general direction of the Manager of Planning and Administrative Services, the position is responsible for the in-depth analysis of data from multiple sources within the transit department and select external sources. The position will compile, review and analyze ridership data, route performance, and route efficiency through multiple data sources such as PRESTO, Conventional scheduling system software, GFI fare collection software, specialized software systems, Automatic Passenger Counter Data, fuel, and km data and future Battery Electric Bus (BEB) data. The Analyst will assist determining route efficiency, ridership, analysis of newly proposed and alternative routes, and driver and vehicle service requirements including (BEB). The position supports the Director and the department to identify, analyze and present historical data, current state and future/projected state for process improvement and to support the annual budget process.
