    • Direct, prioritize and supervise the implementation of non-English communications systems for district-wide distribution among 27J Schools, including newsletters, publications, policies and regulations, discipline and legal documentation: including expulsion hearings and reports, translation of Individual Education Programs, and truancy notification to parents. Provide training to staff as needed and monitor quality of translation services. Overseeing the translation process from the receiving of source materials to the delivery of final translated documents to assure that internal and external district translators are completing the translation and documents are submitted in a timely manner. Monitor that all translations and interpretation procedures follow federal and local regulations and requirements.
    • Translate written material from English to Spanish and vice versa, such as district documents, forms, publications, and communications through district information technology systems. Assist with interpretations for district meetings, including but not limited to expulsion hearings and IEP meetings.
    • Hire, train and supervise sub-interpreters and monitor the quality of service provided. Manage internal and external interpreters and translators by providing guidance, support and feedback.
    • Coordinate non-English Interpretation/translation services for all internal interpreters/Translators and external independent contractors or agencies for district wide language needs among the district, including receiving, analyzing and prioritizing translations and interpretation requests. Establish relationships with agencies and independent contractors to develop a pool of district-approved resources for interpretations and Translations services.
    • Serve as primary translations and interpretations contact and resource during business hours for support of staff and families.
    • Identify, assist, administer and report with translation-interpretation assessment tools that will help determine the student’s dominant language, e.g. Woodcock Munoz, etc.
    • Assist the communications department and schools in incident and emergency response communications by translating and delivering promptly in the most opportune and effective method the information needed to the target language and audience. Cooperate with schools and departments to ensure clarity of communication regarding translated documents.
    • Develop, promote and facilitate ways in which non-English speaking families participate in the process of decision making, in school board and community meetings. Serve as a liaison to address parents’ concerns, questions, and comments related to district practices.
    • Maintain a record of documents translated and interpretations services provided for all languages to identify the support needed in each school.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Job Summary: The Translation and Interpretation Services Coordinator is a leadership position that serves as a liaison ensuring effective communication between non-English speaking families, 27J Schools, the community and the agencies/contractors. The coordinator is also responsible for all activities and operations of translations and interpretation services within the district by acting as the primary contact for internal clients and outsourced agencies. The coordinator has the responsibility to recruit and maintain excellent relationships with translators, companies and organizations that provide related services.

      Salary: Starting at $69,478.00 annually, depending on recent relevant experience.

      Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Minimum of 2 years of experience in translation and interpretation and three years of experience in education. Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Spanish. Advanced computer, keyboarding and word processing skills. Advanced knowledge of social-linguistically background and variances. Advanced interpersonal, customer service, public relations, critical thinking, problem solving, and organizational skills. Ability to manage confidentiality in all aspects of a job. Ability to manage multiple priorities, manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions, and the ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations. Knowledge of interpretation systems and translation software is required for hire
