- Performs and coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications or special provisions.
- Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
- Provides technical assistance in drainage design, resolution of drainage complaints, hydraulics evaluations and other hydrology matters.
- Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
- Reviews and revises schematics, PS&E, project designs, shop drawings and field changes for traffic control devices, signals, signs, markings, detours, traffic control plans, electrical distribution and roadway lighting and traffic management systems.
- Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.
- Writes/reviews proposals and estimates for letting.
- Trains engineering staff.
- Updates, reviews, monitors, and/or reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and/or standard sheets.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Interprets the Utility Accommodation Policy.
- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Licensed Prof Engineer*
- If performing underwater bridge inspections: Must have Open Water Diver certification.
- For Bridge Inspection: Must have completed a comprehensive training course based on the Bridge Inspector's Training Manual or NICET Level III or IV certification in Bridge Safety Inspection within (1) year of date of hire.
- Hydrologic and hydraulic engineering principles, practices and methods and the application of engineering theory
- Hydrologic, hydraulic and geotechnical design activities and principles
- Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements
- Construction phasing and sequencing
- Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities
- Design and plan preparation methods and requirements
- Applying engineering principles, practices and methods in job responsibilities
- Performing basic design and drafting
- Planning, coordinating and handling multiple projects within area of responsibility to meet short and long term deadlines
- Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs
- Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes

!*!TxDOT's San Antonio District is looking for a Transportation Engineer for our Central Design Office located in San Antonio, Texas. This position will be overseeing in-house design for projects from preventive maintenance to freeway expansions.
Salary Ranges:
Transportation Engineer I (B24): $62,004 - $101,556
Transportation Engineer II (B25): $66,259 - $108,666
Transportation Engineer III (B26): $72,886- $123,267
This position is for (1) Transportation Engineer I, II or III, depending on business needs and applicant qualifications. TxDOT reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on business needs and the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors.

Minimum Qualifications:
All Levels
Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Transportation Engineer I
Experience: 4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
Transportation Engineer II
Experience: 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
Transportation Engineer III
Experience: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
(Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications:
*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.
