      Job Summary:

      Assist the Operational Traffic and Safety group in technical analysis and research. Provide data collection and analysis related to traffic operations and signing/striping/signal
      maintenance.

      This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

      Job Duties:

      Prepare formal traffic engineering studies as needed on level of service, speed, traffic control, and pedestrian needs. Conduct field inspections and collect field data Statewide. Analyze accident and geometric data to resolve traffic safety Issues.

      Review proposed development plans for compliance with traffic standards and for operational efficiency. Review formal traffic impact analyses for permitted developments. Review internally and externally-generated signal, lighting, signing and marking requests for operational efficiency. Review construction project documents, traffic control plans, and assist and review comments.

      Attend proposed construction project field reviews. Review project assessments and design plans for programmed projects. Attend Technical Advisory Committee meetings and participate in Roadway Safety Audit field reviews. Use a state vehicle in the course of job duties.

      Assist maintenance units with internal maintenance requests and traffic control issues.

      Other duties as assigned as related to the position.

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

      Knowledge:
      -Transportation related engineering properties and procedures.
      -Federal and State Regulations involving construction, engineering, and environmental procedures.
      -Current civil engineering practices and procedures.
      -Department's design standards a plus.
      -Engineering fundamentals such as traffic concepts, mathematics, and basic statistics.
      -Knowledge or ability to learn Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
      -Knowledge of Highway Capacity Manual (HCM)
      -Knowledge of American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Green Book
      -Knowledge of ADOT Roadway Design Guideline (RDG)
      -Knowledge of ADOT Traffic Control Plan (TCP)

      Skills:

      -Researching, reading and interpreting technical engineering documents.

      -Represent agency.

      Selective Preference(s):

      Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or closely-related field. Engineer-in-Training certification is preferred but not required.

      Pre-Employment Requirements:

      This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

      All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
