- Transportation Freight Rate Specialist will advise shipping, purchasing, and other offices within the agency as to appropriate freight classifications involving questionable, borderline, and alternative classifications such as those:
- For which there are no recorded or published classifications
- Which have been improperly classified
- For which the classification has been contested
- For which alternative classifications are possible
- Which are peculiar to the agency, not usually shipped commercially, and require the translation of technical descriptive terms into freight and transportation nomenclature.
- Recommending and upon the approval of the supervisor preparing requests for rulings on freight improperly classified, not previously classified, or when new or amended classifications are sought by own agency, which involves the development and assembly of pertinent information and preparation of exhibits. Employee will perform all other tasks as required to support the AFSBn-Stewart and the Fort Stewart Installation.
- Must be capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling very heavy parts and loads. Must be able to climb, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, and reach as required to work on equipment.
- Must possess excellent clerical skills, to include Microsoft Office applications as well as network access knowledge.
- Maintains tools and equipment, and cleans work areas to maintain a safe work environment. Be able to work outside in inclement weather conditions when necessary.
- Ensure that all tasks are performed safely and meet Government/Army standards when applicable.
- Wearing safety items of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) e.g. gloves, safety shoes, protective eyewear, hearing protection, and other items such as aprons or outerwear as appropriate.
- Employee is required to maintain a valid state-issued Driver’s license and applicable Government/Army license.
- Perform other duties as required to support the mission and contractual requirements.
- Work will require lifting up to 50 lbs.; stooping; climbing; prolonged standing; prolonged sitting; and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to the weather. Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas. Such PPE includes but is not limited to, head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices.
- Must comply with OSHA, EPA, Fire Regulations and published Company work rules.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to complete and prioritize tasks on multiple concurrent projects within given timeframes.
- Work well in a team environment and able to work with a diverse group of people.
- Discretion and trustworthiness due to frequent contact with confidential material.
- Communicate with co-workers, management, clients and all others in a courteous and professional manner.
- Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- High School Diploma or GED certificate.
- Must have an in-depth knowledge of the CONUS Freight Management System (CFM) and the Automated Transportation Control and Movement Document (ATCMD) system.
- Experience using the Joint Equipment Characteristics Database (JECD).
- Experience with Cargo Movement Operations System (CMOS).
- Experience using the Global Freight Management (GFM) system.
- Familiarity with Spot Bids for Oversized over Dimensional Shipments
- TGIS experience for inputting sensitive shipments in the Defense Transportation Tracking Services (DTTS).
- Completed prerequisite training for Army Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 88N Transportation Management Coordinator or have equivalent training with 4-6 years of experience in the grade of E-5 to E-6.
