      Overview

      As the Transportation Risk Specialist, you will be accountable for the sustainable delivery of SRE Safety and Loss Prevention programming. The position is responsible for conducting safety and loss prevention inspections of moderate to complex motor carrier fleets, facilities and garages. In this capacity, the Specialist will coordinate risk audits, plan activities through formal consultation, and schedule meetings in collaboration with brokers, clients, and consultants to promote a collegial approach to identifying and mitigating risks. Through an integrated reporting and follow-up process, the position will develop recommendations to prevent future liability exposures.

      Responsibilities

      • Conduct safety and loss prevention-related inspections and re-inspections of commercial fleets and garages.
      • Recognize and accurately documents any identified risks that may create a liability for the client and/or Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI).
      • Recognize and accurately documents successful loss prevention programs.
      • Ensure the timely writing of loss prevention and audit reports and maintains the quality of reports established by the SRE Safety and Loss Prevention Program.
      • Review complex, and/or potentially controversial recommendations with the Manager, SRE Fleet Safety.
      • Interview company representatives to obtain information to perform audits.
      • Collaborate with insured, brokers, adjusters, commercial estimators, and underwriting staff to encourage the implementation of suggested improvements.
      • Promote regulatory compliance, sound management practices and a culture of loss prevention.
      • Identify system gaps, provides loss prevention reports to the SRE managers, clients, and underwriters, with recommendations for preventative and corrective actions to reduce future risk.
      • Develop innovative solutions and advise clients on best practices in risk control strategies.

      Qualifications

      • Certificate of Qualification or Journeyperson Certificate in Truck and Transport Mechanic.
      • Manitoba Safety Inspector Certificate.
      • Actively pursuing or commitment to pursue and complete the Canadian Risk Management designation (CRM).
      • Six years heavy duty vehicle maintenance and extensive knowledge of air brakes, steering, and suspension systems.
      • Experience mnust include two years broad based commercial fleet management process experience or experience in loss prevention.
