- Co-develop and co-deliver training to staff, people with mental health difficulties and carers. Training will relate to areas such as trauma, trauma-informed approaches, mental health difficulties, interventions for trauma and skills development. This is not exhaustive, and the content will depend on the needs of the services involved.
- Adapt development and delivery of training for the audience and setting, recognising that attendees will be adults of all ages and backgrounds, and as such the training must be sensitive to a range of needs.
- Support the development of knowledge and skills during training through sharing the wisdom of their own lived experience. Inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible.
- Contribute to training and wider service administration, for example: helping to organise the training, collating registers of attendees and collating attendee feedback.
- Contribute to training and wider service evaluation, supporting the use of relevant and appropriate outcome measures.
- Under guidance, conduct literature reviews and contribute to the write-up and dissemination of service evaluation and audit.
- Contribute using their lived experience insights to trauma-informed projects the service are involved with, and to service development.
- Work closely with the Lived Experience Lead and other relevant staff as required.
- Attend pre- and post-training support meetings, and regular supervision.
- Knowledge of mental health issues (including trauma and issues arising from experiencing trauma) and recovery
- Knowledge or commitment to obtain knowledge regarding trauma-informed approaches
- Experience of any voluntary or paid employment
- An interest in working with staff, people with mental and physical health difficulties and carers
- Lived experience of trauma, or of caring for someone who has
- Lived experience of accessing relevant services or caring for someone who has
- Willingness to positively share your own experiences of trauma and recovery with others
- Ability to guide others in taking charge of their own recovery, and/or assisting the recovery of others they care for at work
- Completed an accredited peer support worker course
- Completed an accredited facilitation or coaching course
- Attended a Recovery College course and / or trauma-informed training
- Paid or unpaid peer support worker/training/teaching experience
- Experience of supporting, teaching or coaching others
- Understand services (such as mental health, physical health, social care, education)
- Understanding of peer support
- Evidence of good interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to demonstrate empathy, compassion, patience, appreciate / understand other people's worlds and be non-judgmental
- Ability to problem solve and help people find solutions to their problems
- Good organisational skills
- Effective team player
- Acceptable level of written literacy and numeracy
- Basic IT skills i.e. Microsoft Word, Outlook and Teams
- Sensitive understanding of diversity issues and an ability to promote anti-discriminatory practice/ equal opportunities.
- Ability to sit in a constricted position and maintain intense concentration during tasks at the computer.
- Ability to drive or be able to use public transport in order to access Leatherhead HQ / community locations.
- Ability to move furniture and equipment of varying weight in line with manual handling regulations.
- Ability to assess and manage risk occasionally and to sustain concentration in unpredictable situations.
- Able to translate complex concepts into an understandable framework for attendees.
- An ability to act calmly and to respond in a professional manner to distress, disturbance, unpredictability and emergency situations
- Ability to manage occasional exposure to highly distressing and emotive situations and disclosures, including disclosures of child abuse, suicidal intent and actual suicide
- Ability to reflect on personal emotions that may impact on the work in supervision.
- Able to manage boundaries within professional relationships
- Able to recognise limitations and ask for help.
- Knowledge of how to build community links and networks

Job summary
The Trauma-Informed Lived Experience Practitioner will use their lived experience of trauma and of using services to primarily support the delivery of trauma-informed training to staff, and / or to students of the SABP Recovery College. Staff will be from a range of disciplines across Surrey and North-East Hampshire. They will also be contributing their lived experience insights to trauma-informed projects, and to the development and evaluation of the service.
