      SUMMARY

      The Trauma Registrar is a vital component of the Pediatric Trauma Program. The individual is responsible for maintaining the institution's database of trauma evaluations and admissions. The Trauma Registrar is responsible for reporting such data to the Connecticut Office of Emergency Medical Services on a quarterly basis. Reporting to the Trauma Program Manager, the registrar will work closely with all healthcare professionals involved in the care of the pediatric trauma patient to collect, code, and score records related to the patient's history, diagnosis, therapy, and outcome. The registrar is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a portion of the Trauma Program's quality improvement process.

      ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

      Identifies trauma patients and generates patient list for medical record review.
      Reviews patient's medical records, abstracts, and codes demographic factors, history, diagnosis, treatment, and outcome.
      Enters and maintains patient data in trauma registry database and research databases.
      Consistently reviews data for accuracy and thoroughness.
      Generates reports as needed for institution, state, ACS, and JCAHO purposes.
      Generates reports or data as needed for research and academic purposes.
      Prepares quality improvement inquiries as necessary to ensure loop closure.
      Attends educational conferences and professional organization meetings as necessary to support the role and goals of the Trauma Program.
      Assists the Trauma Program Manager as necessary in administering the daily functions of the Trauma Program.
      Espouses CCMC's Core Competencies and Organizational Values in all customer interactions.

      Education and Experience

      Education Required: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
      Education Preferred: Associates degree in medical record technology or two years of experience in medical record keeping preferred; Bachelors preferred.

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

      Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills;
      Detail oriented with the ability to organize/complete work under deadlines;
      A working knowledge of surgical/trauma and medical terminology and anatomy is required;
      Good communication and interpersonal skills;
      Demonstrated proficiency in MS Access, EPIC preferred; proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and MS Powerpoint
      required;
      Familiarity with ICD-10 coding, TRISS is preferred;
      AIS coding knowledge required or successful completion of AIS coding course within one year of hire;
      Completion of Trauma Registrar course within one year of hire;

      Work Environment:

      Office of Trauma Program Manager or equivalent;
      Department of Medical Records, research room;
      CCMC and Hartford Hospital, when necessary, patient care areas to include adult and pediatric intensive care units;
      Occasional travel overnight;
      Desk or work area will be provided.
