- Direct responsibility for the daily operations management within HIM for multiple facilities and clinics, including staff oversight, training and education, quality, productivity, and report management.
- Supports the department and hospital staff with HIM related issues, questions, and provides follow-up and escalation as needed.
- Assists HIM Manager/Director with forms management, HIPAA requests, regulatory readiness and other compliance activities.
- Supports the HIM Manager/Director with short term and long-term planning for staffing and implementing new workflow procedures.
- Acts as a liaison between IT and EPIC end users.
- Attends and facilitates meetings on behalf of the HIM Manager/Director.
- Competently able to speak and independently handle situations in the absence of the HIM Manager/Director.
- Acts as a liaison with other departments, physicians, and vendors on HIM related requests and concerns.
- Performs quality reviews and effectively communicates feedback to staff.
- Participates in creation and revision of policies and procedures.
- Monitors and manages productivity.
- Approves and edits timesheets in Kronos.
- Interviews and selects appropriate skilled staff.
- Assists in training and orienting associates, coaching and mentoring.
- Provides feedback to associates concerning work performance based on daily, weekly and monthly QA monitoring.
- Monitors associate satisfaction and promotes initiatives to increase associate satisfaction and productivity.
- Compliantly manages requests for information according to HIPAA and other regulatory and legal standards, through subpoenas, law enforcement, government agents, insurance companies and patients as well as appearing in court representing the organization as needed.
- Coordinates assigned projects.
- Facilitates department meetings and huddles.
- 1-3 years of health information management experience in a health care setting required (acute care preferred).
- 1-year supervisory/leadership experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Experience with an electronic health record, health information systems and health care applications required.
- Proficient in medical terminology required.
- Experience with regulations and accreditation standards.
