      Job summary

      Due to upcoming retirement and maternity leave, we are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and experienced Treatment Room Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team. St James Medical Centre and Orchard Medical Centre are busy and progressive GP practices in the Centre of Taunton with a branch site in Norton Fitzwarren.

      This is a part-time role working 20 hours per week across Wednesday, Thursday, and Fridays, providing high-quality, evidence-based nursing care within our well-equipped treatment rooms.

      Main duties of the job

      Key Responsibilities:

      Wound care and dressings

      Immunisations (including flu, shingles, travel, and childhood vaccines)

      Venepuncture

      ECGs and blood pressure monitoring

      Removal of sutures and clips

      Health promotion and screening

      Ear irrigation

      Support for chronic disease management (as appropriate)

      A. JOB PURPOSE

      To support the practice nurse team with the provision of routine treatment room procedures and to provide a one stop near patient testing service for anticoagulation monitoring.

      B. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      Provision of general nursing duties to include:

      - phlebotomy and testing specimens

      - wound care and management of skin conditions

      - assisting with minor ops

      - ear washouts

      - giving immunisations and vaccinations

      - electrocardiography

      - blood pressure measurement

      - performing travel assessments and giving NHS travel vaccines

      Provision of anticoagulation monitoring enhanced service (known as level 4) through near patient testing and use of dosage decision making software programme (INR star).

      Promote good health and the prevention of illness by advice on diet and lifestyle

      First aid management of emergencies e.g. respiratory, burns, haemorrhage, shock and cardiac arrest

      To provide accurate documentation of treatment room activities in patient records using EMIS Web computer system

      Compliance with practice clinical protocols and guidelines

      To communicate effectively within the wider practice team and external organisations

      To take responsibility for own professional development

      C. SUPERVISION RECEIVED

      The post holder reports directly to the Lead Practice Nurse (the post holders Line Manager) and the Partners. In the absence of the Lead Practice Nurse the post holder will report to a Senior Practice Nurse for advice and guidance.

      D. SUPERVISION EXERCISED

      The post holder has no day to day line management responsibility and does not directly manage any members of staff.

      E. DECISIONSEXERCISED

      The post holder is responsible for a wide range of general nursing care tasks and will often work unsupervised. The post holder is required to exercise judgement and take decisions about the care provided to patients. Decisions will be taken in accordance with national, local and practice guidelines and protocols.

      F. CREATIVITY

      The postholder is a member of a team and the practice is receptive to positive input from all staff about how patient care is organised and delivered. The ongoing development of evidence-based medicine; clinical governance and continuing professional development also afford opportunities for creativity

      G. CONTACTS

      The postholder has contact with a wide range of people, including patients, GPs, other practice nurses, receptionists, health visitors, community nurses etc

      H. EDUCATION

      The post holder will be a qualified Registered Nurse and must be able to demonstrate competence. The post holder is required to maintain his/ her own professional knowledge and skills by attending appropriate study days. The post holder will receive formal training needs identification.
