      Fiduciary Trust International is hiring an experienced Trust Counsel to join our Pasadena office and support the Los Angeles Market. Ideal candidates will be located in Southern California and will have 10+ years’ trust experience in a legal or professional environment.

      Core Responsibilities:

      Deepening Client Relationships:

      • Provide existing clients with holistic review of estate and wealth transfer plan and provide guidance accordingly in connection with team and act as a liaison partner with outside professional advisors

      • Collaborate and coordinate with market teams and nationally in order to provide clients with breadth of firm’s offerings

      • Responsible for some client relationships as a static-core partner, leading with advice and guidance as needed as clients’ needs and plan structure evolve and change

      • Understanding and updating team and clients with evolving changes to estate laws, local state laws, tax legislature, and proactively identifying impact and potential changes with structuring in current and new client estate plans

      Supporting Trust Administration:

      • Provide guidance to designated Trust Administrators

      • Review openings and closings of trust-related accounts and documents, as appropriate for account acceptance or termination

      • Refer questions to outside counsel, as necessary

      • Address beneficiaries’ and remaindermen questions and planning needs ad hoc

      • Review exercises of discretion, including principal income and distributions of income

      • Participate in department initiatives including preparing materials for the Staff Board of Directors’ Trust Committee, attending Staff Board of Directors’ Trust Committee and liaising with Trust, Estate, Tax and Custody on relevant changes in legislation and regulations

      Market Engagement:

      • Active community representation of the firm in the industry through thought leadership and attendance in industry groups such as Bar Associations; committees, networking groups and conferences

      • Assist and participate in new business meetings in order to articulate value proposition of integrated wealth management from Trust Counsel offering perspective

      • Provide direction on opportunities and staying abreast of competitor offerings and structure; making relevant recommendations to senior management to improve competitiveness

      • Actively engaged with general new business and marketing support including updating Trust, Estate and Wealth Transfer Topic materials as required/requested

      • Entrepreneurial and Growth mindset as an individual and team contributor

      • Act as a leader and SME for specific new projects and initiatives related to new business development and client retention

      Ideal Qualifications:

      • JD or LLM required; additional law degree or MBA preferred

      • Active California bar admission required

      • 10+ years trust experience in a legal or professional environment

      • Working knowledge of generally accepted business procedures, practices and regulations

      • Knowledge of California specific Trust laws required

      • Network of other professional advisor relationships to leverage and to collaborate with

      • Experience working with entrepreneurs and business owners, preferred

      • Knowledge of international estate and tax planning, preferred

      • Fluency across financial planning disciplines, including cash-flow planning, insurance and risk management, income tax planning and investment planning, preferred

      • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail

      • Ability to travel throughout the state on occasion

We expect the base salary for this position to range between $270K - $300K, depending on level of relevant experience, plus discretionary bonus.
