- GENERAL SUMMARY
- The Ultrasound/PVL Technologist performs and assists with general abdominal, pelvic, soft tissue, and small parts ultrasound examinations and non-invasive, peripheral, vascular examinations and procedures under the direction of a Radiologist or delegating practitioner to produce ultrasound exams, which are used in medical diagnosis. Works with leadership and radiologists to provide, enhance, and maintain high levels for image quality and patient safety. Reports to designated department leadership.

- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluates ultrasound images for technical quality. Performs non-invasive peripheral vascular diagnostic laboratory tests and procedures following established policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Provides services to support inpatient and outpatient imaging.
- Collaborates with Sedation and Anesthesia departments to facilitate and ensure timely placement of add-on/urgent examinations.
- Assists and supports new hire orientation and training.
- Educates patients and families.
- Assures customer satisfaction (interdepartmental, community and patient/family) with services.
- Participates in research projects.
- Maintains on-going quality assurance.
- Reviews and maintains policies and procedures.
- Ensures continuing education requirements.
- Seeks guidance from management for unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from financial/operational policies and standards of practice.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
- Registration or Certification as an Ultrasound Technologist and Vascular Technologist (RVT) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or other credentialing program required. Must have current licensure and continuing education credits (CEs) from a credentialing program.

- MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Two to three years of Ultrasound and PVL technologist experience preferred.
- Knowledge of ultrasound techniques/principles and procedures as well as operation and maintenance of sonographic equipment.
- Knowledge of PVL diagnostic tests, procedures, equipment, anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics of the arterial and venous systems.
- Knowledge of physics and hemodynamics in the development and acquisition of new diagnostic technology.
- Ability to interpret and discriminate between normal and abnormal findings, diagnostic data, and report findings to provider.
- Analytical skills necessary to detect pathologies based on the knowledge of physiological cause/effect of diseases and clinical principles.
- Knowledge of computerized data retrieval systems and organization of laboratory reports, results, and quality assurance programs.
- Ability to analyze and problem solve independently.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with patients/families, nursing personnel, physicians and coworkers.
- Ability to travel to offsite locations required.
- CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire .

- WORKING CONDITIONS
- Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
