The University of Virginia's Contemplative Sciences Center (CSC) seeks detail-oriented and dependable undergraduate and graduate student applicants to develop, curate, and index research on topics related to contemplation and human flourishing. This position is part of a larger collaborative research team developing and organizing content for an international website and smartphone apps designed to support for student flourishing.
Applicants for the position of CSC Research Assistant should be prepared to perform some of the following duties: curate topical bibliographies, compile technical terms and definitions, process text and/or audio-visual content, review and edit pre-existing metadata, standardize existing content, and other various processing duties. Depending on the applicant’s qualifications, s/he may be responsible for compiling dictionary, bibliography, and encyclopedia content, reviewing AV archival material, assessing quality, editing metadata, uploading content to a web portal or smartphone app, collating and organizing content, and standardizing content as needed. Occasional additional duties: scanning original materials (i.e., books, slides); assist in promotion of CSC events (logistics, distributing flyers, etc.); and other projects as assigned.
Should be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Docs, Slack, Zotero bibliography management software. Familiarity with website apps and/or experience editing audio-video a plus. Previous study of contemplative traditions or scientific research on meditation is useful but not required. Experience in a research lab or collaborative research a plus. Students with a background in Religious Studies, Philosophy, Anthropology, Psychology, Neuroscience, and Media Studies are especially encouraged to apply
Salary: $12.41/hour

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers.
