      Position: Underwriting Advisor, Credit Insurance Underwriting

      Employment Type: Permanent

      Compensation Details :

      • Underwriter 18: Salaries typically range from $94,664 to $126,219 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

      Location:

      • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)
      • This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from our Community Hubs in Toronto.
      • Relocation assistance is available for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria.

      Team Overview:

      EDC’s Credit Insurance Underwriting group is looking for a dynamic and self-motivated professional to assist Canadian companies go, grow and succeed internationally. Working in close collaboration with both internal and external partners, the successful candidate will facilitate international trade by helping our customers protect themselves against the risk of non-payment from foreign companies.

      In the Underwriting Advisor role, you will be relied upon as an underwriting and Credit Insurance Underwriting product expert in the program, for coaching and mentoring, as well as leading initiatives with program wide impact. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to the Credit Insurance program objectives by overseeing and authorizing transactions, to engage with EDC’s customers to understand their needs, structure insurance coverage and assess counterparty creditworthiness to achieve the optimal balance between customer-centricity and EDCs business requirements. In addition, you will, actively participate in the attainment of the groups performance and growth objectives and be engaged in continuous improvement to remove obstacles, enhance the work environment and improve the customer experience. The Underwriting Advisor will collaborate closely with your counterparts across the program and demonstrate informal leadership skills in line with the leadership team’s goals to support national and program objectives.

      What you will be doing:

      • Ensure high performance of team by supporting and coaching team members on following best practices when preparing new business quotes and renewals. Put our best foot forward with regards to structure, pricing, and risk appetite and by listening to the Customer and partner needs to grow and retain/win the business in balance with Credit Insurance Underwriting program’s growth and sustainability.
      • Provide coaching and mentorship on managing Credit Insurance Underwriting policies in a way that allows knowledge transfer while optimizing customer relationships and delivering customer centric solutions and services.
      • Review, recommend and authorize New Business, renewal, credit and non-credit transactions.
      • Provide feedback for underwriters and suggest areas of improvements, directly to underwriters as well as the leadership team to support performance management.
      • Anticipate business requirements and provides support to the underwriters on Customer or partner issues to ensure strong customer understanding and satisfaction.
      • Contribute to the consistency of product delivery and risk appetite for the program through strong communication and alignment.
      • Collaborate with support groups, peers and contribute to operationalizing or lead corporate and program initiatives within the team. Have a shared view of success across the program and value streams.
      • Support effective collaboration with various internal stakeholders to ensure our clients receive service aligned with EDC and program standards. Support growth and execution of key priorities for the team and EDC.

      What we are looking for:

      • Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Commerce or other relevant discipline (for all levels).
      • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in insurance underwriting and/or bank guarantees or related experience
      • Significant experience in participating to the successful completion of commercial credit transactions across a variety of industry sectors and/or international markets
      • Solid experience reading and interpreting financial statements with strong financial analysis skills.
      • Experience structuring and negotiating more complex structures with a can-do attitude and an outside the box mindset.
      • Comfortable meeting with Exporters at Executive and Senior Leadership level to assess needs, determine and outline appropriate structures
      • Experience in mentoring and coaching
      • Personal agility:
        • ability to demonstrate personal resilience and openness to changes to EDC’s business environment and structure,
        • adapting one’s approach as the requirements of a situation change,
        • being comfortable in ambiguous situations and changing or easily accepting and managing changes in one’s job requirements,

      • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and collaboration skills
      • Strong client service skills (internal and external)

      What will make you stand out:

      • International and/or commercial banking experience.
      • MBA, CFA or CPA designation.
      • Advanced Excel skills. Coding skills is an asset.
      • Proficiency in both English and French (fully bilingual).

      Eligibility:
