    • Abide by school board policies and consult with and coordinate activities through the Director of Security.
    • Remain fully responsive to the chain of command in all matters relating to employment and supervision.
    • Report all safety and security matters to the Director of Security and building administrators.
    • Develop safety and security presentations and present various subjects to parents, students, and staff at the request of the supervisor and/or district administration.
    • Participate in developing plans and strategies to prevent and/or minimize dangerous situations on or near the campus or involving students in school-related activities.
    • Take “law enforcement” actions if/when there is an imminent threat of serious bodily injury and or death. Notify the supervisor immediately.
    • Watch for and report irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations.
    • Contact emergency personnel (police, fire, EMS, etc.) as required.
    • Maintain high visibility on assigned campus. Monitor student behavior and enforce school rules related to safety and security.
    • Provide traffic control and enforce safe driving practices on district property.
    • Conduct video surveillance.
    • Remain alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security violations.
    • Maintain accurate and complete reports.
    • Provide security for school events and activities of the District.
    • Respond immediately to campus emergency needs.
    • Provide support in the development and implementation of the Multi-Hazard Emergency Response Plan.
    • Promote the positive relationship between the District and police, fire departments, and emergency medical service personnel.
    • Assist in conducting required Safety and Security audits and make recommendations as appropriate.
    • Manage department resource allocation to effectively support campus and District goals.
    • Complete required professional development training as set by the district and supervisor.
    • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.
    • Maintain confidentiality and comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education Rules, and Local Board Policy.

      Primary Purpose
      Works to ensure the safety and security of Copperas Cove ISD, programs, and functions as well as support the emergency preparedness of campuses, facilities, students, staff, and visitors. If required, assists law enforcement agencies with investigations and provides support. Follows policies, directives, and standards of the District. Remains alert to emergencies and provides a first-line response.

      Qualifications
      High School Diploma or equivalent, Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
      Coursework, training, or certification in public safety, school safety, and security, emergency services, emergency management, Incident Command Systems, investigations, and/or related areas (preferred)
      Current possession of License to Carry for the State of Texas
      Ability to successfully complete School Marshal training provided by the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement

      Special Knowledge and Skills
      Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
      Physically capable of subduing offenders, including the use of firearms, non-lethal options, and handcuffs.
      Ability to pass required medical, psychiatric, and drug tests.
      Possess good judgment.
      Strong public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
      Skill and effectiveness in working collaboratively to develop or implement new programs, procedures, and processes.
      Exceptional work ethic, self-initiative, and attention to detail.
      Excellent judgment and ability to make sound, reasonable decisions while under pressure.
      Strong writing and verbal communication skills, including in the context of fact-gathering, investigations, or incidents, and drafting policies, procedures, training materials, and informational reports.
      Maintain a high degree of integrity and professionalism

      Standards
      Obtain a passing score of 90% or better on a pistol qualification course annually
      Pass a psychological evaluation upon hire and every two years thereafter.

      Experience
      Prior Law Enforcement or military experience preferred.

      Working Conditions
      Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computers and peripherals. Two-way radio, handheld metal detector, camera monitors, and video recording equipment.
      Posture: Prolonged sitting, standing, occasional bending/stopping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
      Motion: Repetitive hand motions and walking, including navigating stairs and uneven surfaces.
      Lifting: occasional light lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds).
      Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; periodic district-wide travel and occasional statewide travel. Mental demands: Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress.
