  • Job Description

      1. Completes necessary forms, requisitions and communications to implement orders.
      2. Sustains proficiency in the current EMR system.
      3. Maintains accurate and complete patient records on unit by established department policies and procedures.
      4. Maintains and organizes all patient Pre-Natal Progress Records imported from Obstetricians offices.
      5. Maintains and initiates birth records for all infants:
      • Completes Birth Certificates for all newborns using the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Virtual Gateway system.
      • Assembles paperwork for all newborns and completes process by obtaining parent signatures and notarizing Paternity and Non-Paternity documents

      Faxes/scans/transmits completed documentation to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Registry of Vitals Records office in a timely manner

      1. Properly utilizes Nurse Locator for timely communications with nursing staff; and Patient Call system to initiate timely responsiveness to patient call bells.
      2. Maintains patient chart in appropriate functional order as prescribed by hospital policy.
      3. Initiates admission and registration of all birthing center patients.
      4. Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients.
      5. Maintains adequate quantity of forms, materials and supplies on unit.
      6. Prints out visitor passes for visitors presenting at the desk.
      7. Responds in a professional and courteous manner in all telephone and verbal communications with internal and external customers.
      8. Adheres to safety, blood/fluid policies and procedures when transporting specimens to the lab.
      9. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.
      10. Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested.
      • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
      • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare informatics systems.
      • Successful completion of medical terminology course or successfully pass medical terminology challenge exam.
      • Must become a birth registrar with Vitals Information Partnership (VIP) within 60 days of hire.
      • Must become a Commonwealth of Massachusetts Notary Public within 60 days of hire.
      • Medical Secretary/Medical Receptionist experience preferred.
