      He angitūtanga: The opportunity

      As part of the Parks & Community Facilities Department, you’ll be working with a diverse team of subject matter experts who are passionate about delivering tangible results for the local community and future generations. As kaitiaki (guardian) of Auckland Council parks and facilities, we play a vital role in promoting the wellbeing of our communities while also delivering strategically significant programmes.

      You’ll be joining the Urban Forest team, as part of the wider Regional Arboriculture and Ecological team, and essentially be functioning as a tree asset manager. You’ll promote and advocate for the importance and benefits of the urban forest, and participate in the strategic planning inputs around arboriculture and green infrastructure provisions. Your role will also include:

      • Processing of Tree Owner Approval applications within your allocated local boards
      • Acting as the tree owner in your allocated local boards
      • Responding to inquiries from members of public and stakeholders relating to trees
      • Attendance of pre-application meetings
      • Recording of data in Auckland Council systems
      • Tree planting location selection

      He kōrero mōu: About you

      Passionate about arboriculture, green infrastructure and the environment, you’ll be well versed in tree identification, biology, physiology and visual tree assessment.

      A competitive advantage, we are looking for people who possess and hold fast to the values of mātauranga (knowledge) Māori and manaakitanga (protection) for the ngāhere (forest) and are willing and able to work towards strengthening the whanaungatanga (relationships) between Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau and Mana Whenua.

      Your field of study may have been natural resource management, forestry/urban forestry, green infrastructure, arboriculture, ecology, environmental science or similar, and your experience within a relevant field will also come with high standard of oral and written communication. A basic understanding of te reo Māori or willingness to learn would also be advantageous.

      You’ll be a natural at managing stakeholder relationships, and have the ability to build and maintain relationships collaboratively.
