Job summary
Eastbourne Mental Health Liaison Service currently has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full time post. Applications are welcome from Registered Mental health nurses/social workers or Occupational Therapists.
Eastbourne is a lively and friendly team where you will be offered mentorship and supervision from senior nursing colleagues, active management support and the chance to undertake training courses relevant to your professional practice. You will also have access to regular professional supervision.
Hours of work are generally Long Days covering a 7 day service.
This post offers the Trust's £2,000 Golden Hello or Relocation Incentive for Band 6 Nurses & Practitioners, (pro rata and subject to terms and conditions; please see attached Protocol Document for full details).
Main duties of the job
To work as part of the secondary care mental health service, acting as a link clinician to primary care teams. Clinical work will be carried out within primary care settings.
To assess and support patients not only in A&E but in linked wards as appropriate
To work with Haven, CRHTT, Staying Well, specifically colleagues in ATS, providing support, advice, consultation and shared care for adults, regardless of age and diagnosis, presenting with a functional mental illness, to enable safe management of clients.
To assess individuals with complex presentations, prior to referral to secondary care and if required, directing them into the appropriate specialist service within secondary care ensuring they are not passed between services.
To maintain a close working relationship with local secondary care teams, keeping them informed of developments within primary care

The primary role of the Mental Health Liaison Practitioner is to respond within agreed response times to referrals from the General Hospital and to prioritise work according to urgency. To contribute to psychosocial assessment, including risk assessment and to formulate an appropriate onward plan of care, providing specialist mental health advice, support and interventions to staff, carers and patients within general hospital environments and in accordance with own expertise.
