- Partner with the Head of Upper School and Department Chairs on faculty support and coaching
- Manage process for Upper School curriculum development and review and partners with Department Chairs on implementation of process
- Research best practices and support faculty development regarding generative AI
- Provide pedagogical support for faculty
- Support teacher recruitment and hiring
- Oversee new faculty on-boarding program
- Examine academic transitions between divisions, ensuring proper continuity from 8th to 9th grade
- Coordinate with the US Technology Coordinator to provide educational technology coaching and support
- Communicate standards for faculty Canvas use and supports faculty and students as needed
- Research and shares best practices for educational technology applications and innovation
- Act as the Co-Director of Interim Term
- Responsible for on-campus Interim Term programming
- Manages on-campus logistics for Interim Term
- Partners with Strategic Communications team to share inspiring stories about Interim Term with the larger community
- Responsible for Interim Term budget with Assistant Head of Upper School
- Participate in co-creation of master schedule and student schedules in Veracross
- Establish and maintain open, informative and congenial communications with students, faculty, administrators, and parents
- Lead productive and inspiring meetings, manage and support faculty members, collaborate with others, and support the work of the Upper School
- Assess the present, understand the past, and design for the future
- Ability to teach one academic class in any subject
- Serve as an advisor to ten to fifteen upper school students
- Bachelor’s degree in an academic discipline, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
- Prior administrative experience including experience in observing and providing feedback to teachers
- At least five years of experience teaching upper school students

The Kinkaid School is seeking a dedicated and innovative Upper School Dean of Academics starting July 2024 to support the faculty, curriculum and pedagogy of the Upper School. A strong candidate will have both teaching and administrative experience and will be driven by creating a school experience that best serves students.
As an administrator, an ideal candidate will have experience coaching and evaluating faculty members, reviewing and updating curriculum, communicating effectively to multiple audiences, leading adult teams, and supporting faculty, students and parents. As a teacher, an ideal candidate will have a proven focus on developing deep learning, intellectual curiosity, and critical thinking skills in Upper School students in any discipline.
The Upper School Dean of Academics must embrace and help advance the principles set out in Kinkaid’s core documents: mission and core values, DEI commitment and strategic plan, Upper School Educational Philosophy and the Portrait of a Teacher. The Upper School Dean of Academics will work closely with the Head of Upper School and Assistant Head of Upper School as a thought partner and implementer and will support the work of the Upper School Leadership Team with the faculty as a whole. This person must also be a visible supporter of school at student life, academic, arts and athletics events. The Upper School Dean of Academics reports to the Head of the Upper School, and is a member of the Upper School Leadership Team and the all-school Curriculum Committee. This position works in the office from 7:45 am until 4:00 pm with time off for all school holidays and four weeks off in the summer (typically July).
