      Advice Lab is an integral part of wealth management at J.P. Morgan Private Bank and is dedicated to providing clients and prospects across the wealth spectrum with differentiated advice to help them navigate their financial lives. The Advice Lab practices include: The Philanthropy Centre, Family Advisory, Executive Compensation Advisory, Tax Advisory, Private Business Advisory, Cyber Advisory, Behavioral Science, Advice Tools, Estate Disposition Advisory in conjunction with broader Wealth Planning & Advice.

      Job Responsibilities

      • Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for providing holistic planning expertise in preparing for and after wealth transitions such as the sale of a business, retirement as a C-suite employee, inherited wealth, or any transition in how income is generated or a significant change in lifestyle
      • SME will have expertise in asset location, requiring a strong command of different account types and investment taxation and how marrying these concepts can create better after-tax results for clients
      • This role will be highly collaborative and frequently partner with other Advice Lab SMEs as well as Wealth Advisors, Wealth Strategists and Goals Based Planning Consultants
      • Partner with wealth management solutions to ensure theory meets practicality in terms of identifying investment opportunity to enhance wealth planning during and after wealth transitions as well as optimizing asset location
      • Collaborate with other retirement related teams in the firm to deliver holistic offering to U.S. Private Bank clients (product, operations, solutions)
      • Individual will be responsible for thought leadership, advisor education, driving priorities in subject area around technology and tools and finally deep client engagement.
      • Key wealth issues in scope: spending after wealth transitions, key considerations that may arise in estate plan, account structuring, asset location, tax considerations, income replacement, Social Security, wealth decumulation considerations, healthcare structure and spending, tax advantaged account/plan strategy

      Thought Leadership

      • Create flagship piece(s), both related to wealth transitions, and, on the power of asset location in the context of broader tax aware wealth management
      • SME for maintaining and keeping current robust library of existing retirement content (approximately 10 pieces on various topics such as Required Minimum Distributions, Health Care, Social Security, Decumulation, Life Event Checklist, etc.)
      • Follow potential changes to rules and regulations in retirement space. Digest legislative changes and distill to UHNW relevant opportunities and updates to disseminate externally (i.e. SECURE Act 2.0)

      Advisor Education

      • SME for Private Bank Academy Planning Program retirement workshop, shaping content and presenting
      • SME for Private Bank Academy Fundamentals Program, shaping content related to tax aware wealth management with a particular focus on asset location
      • Frequent speaker on Morning Meetings and 4:30s to discuss “evergreen” retirement strategies (optimal withdrawal sequence, Social Security claiming) and themes (healthcare/longevity) as well as tactical opportunities most relevant for UHNW clients (Roth conversions on the dips, using market pullbacks to reposition assets for asset location purposes)

      Technology & Platform

      • SME to lead wealth transition and asset location related insights in Private Bank IQ in partnership with Business Intelligence team
      • SME to lead technical retirement related enhancements in Wealth Plan Plus and digitized Advice calculators
      • Incorporate LifeYield into Portfolio Insights and Wealth Plan Plus proprietary technologies for asset location, smart withdrawal and Social Security analytics
      • SME to weigh in on operational workflow enhancements (updating beneficiaries, processing RMDs, 401k rollovers, etc.)
      • Lend expertise to the build team of UMA/RIA to ensure it is coordinated with planning tool and framework and tax efficient wealth management concepts prioritized appropriately
      • Primary liaison between other platform partners (Retirement and IRA Product teams in USWM, 401k team in Asset Management, Workplace)

      Client Engagement

      • Scale this SME position by educating advice organization partners on important traditional retirement concepts and wealth transition strategies, with a particular focus on the Wealth Strategist and Goals-Based Planning Consultant teams
      • Create “event in a box” for 2-3 high impact topics (flagship “Well Prepared for wealth transitions” with modular content, asset location, etc.) that advice org partners and local teams can leverage
      • Speak at large national client events, select local events, and on client webcasts
      • Direct client engagement for most complex and significant client and prospect opportunities and consult with local and regional advice partners to provide scale

      Required Qualifications, Capabilities, Skills

      • Nine or more years of experience in financial services including, but not limited to, financial planning, goals based investing, Private Banking, Affluent/High Net Worth solutions, and retirement strategies
      • Bachelor’s degree required; Certified Financial Planner (CFP®)/Certified Private Wealth Advisor (CPWA®) required
      • JD, MST, LLM, or CPA professional designations strongly preferred
      • Strong financial planning knowledge in regards to retirement, taxation of financial products and transactions, and asset location
      • The ability to partner closely with business partners including but not limited to members of the integrated team, partners in the business, and external clients
      • A strong self-motivator with a “can-do” attitude and the ability to adapt in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
      • Strong presentation and public speaking skills, as well as strong written skills
      • Creative problem-solving abilities that generate new ideas and can adjust to meet changing needs
      • Strong leadership and clear judgment in addition to being a strong influencer and facilitator
      • Proactive, accountable and detail oriented work ethic

      Willingness to travel most domestic
