      THE POSITION
      Ushers are responsible for the seating and safety of audience members in all performance venues, as well as providing excellent customer service for all audience members. All employees are expected to center, model and champion the Guthrie’s core values of Artistic Excellence, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Community, and Fiscal Responsibility.
      This position is part-time (up to 25 hours per week) and non-exempt. The pay rate for this position is $15.19 per hour. This position’s hours are reflective of the dynamic schedule of the theater. A minimum of three evenings/weekend shifts per week are required.

      PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      1. Operations Support

      • Communicate concise information to patrons to ensure a high level of customer service.
      • Scan tickets and monitor theater doors to ensure that everyone entering a performance has a ticket.
      • Guide and direct patrons to seat location based on ticket information.
      • Fill program stands, stuff or sticker programs for special events.
      • Ensure access chairs are in place for patrons prior to performances.
      • Monitor patrons during performances inside the theaters.
      • Notify a supervisor if a patron needs additional assistance or there is a problem with seating; if a patron has a medical emergency; if a patron is using a recording device; or if there is interruptive or disruptive behavior. Implement proper safety and security procedures and policies in a calm and productive manner.
      2. Stakeholder Support
      • Provide exceptional customer service, taking every possible step to ensure that patrons have a positive experience.
      • Become familiar with the Guthrie, theater houses, productions, special performances, offerings, and building highlights in order to share information with audiences and guests accurately.
      • Use knowledge, skills, and judgment to assist patrons, seeking help if something is unclear or requires additional input/assistance. Include supervisor as needed.
      • Solve customer service inquiries or issues, in adherence with Guthrie ticketing policies, when issues arise before or during a performance while maintaining excellent customer service and composure.
      • At the concierge desk, work autonomously to assist patrons or resolve patron issues and concerns as needed. Seeks assistance from Security when needed.
      3. Talent Support
      • Assist in training of new part-time staff by serving as a shadow shift staff.
      4. Strategy Support
      • Actively participate in meetings, activities and trainings.
      • Foster a work environment incorporating the Guthrie values of artistic excellence, community, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and fiscal responsibility.
      • Complete other duties as assigned.
      ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS
      • Demonstrated customer service experience in a dynamic environment required. Prior usher experience preferred.
      • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and present a polite and professional demeanor.
      • Ability to read tickets, learn and know the locations of rows and seats in the house and the location of patron amenities in the public spaces in the theater.
      • Ability to use hand radios and electronic scanning equipment.
      • Ability to maintain composure under stressful situations.
      • Ability to learn the location of emergency exits and to know and follow all emergency procedures.
      • Ability to stand, or if using a wheelchair remain seated, in the same location for extended periods of time, read in low light conditions, and lift/move/carry 10 lbs.
      • Ability to focus in an environment that includes crowded lobbies/theaters with moderate to occasionally high noise levels.
      • Flexible and willing to move from area to area and perform different tasks as needed.
      • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours/days, including evenings and weekends, reflective of the dynamic schedule of the theater.
      • Experience, ability, and commitment to working with individuals and teams that are mixed across lines of difference such as race, gender-identity, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class and immigrant status.
