      Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm

      Expected Starting Hourly Range: $19.51 - $24.38

      This classification provides support services for Water Distribution, Sewer Collections, Lift Stations, Water Treatment Plant, Wastewater Plants, or Maintenance and Field Forces maintenance crews. Work involves a thorough understanding of materials, parts, practices, and equipment utilized in underground utilities and plant maintenance.

      Working Conditions
      Indoor/outdoor situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 50 lbs. alone; up to 100 lbs. with assistance.

      Essential Functions
      These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.

      Services and maintains various types of specialized equipment utilized by underground utilities and plant maintenance crews, which includes pumps, hydraulic/pneumatic tools, pipe tapping machines, pipe cutting saws, jack and bore machines, and pipe locating, traffic control, gas detection, safety, etc., equipment.

      Maintains inventory control of equipment, tools, uniforms, and section supplies, issuing as needed; maintains records of maintenance, orders and use on a computerized inventory/work management system.

      Fabricates special barricades, signs, special tools, fittings, pipe, etc., hauls materials and equipment for field crews as necessary.

      Assists with maintenance of section records, maps, and files; provides information to field/plant crews obtained by researching maps and records, which includes identifying locations of valves, hydrants, pump stations, manholes, water, and wastewater line locations.

      Assists with dispatching emergency repair calls to repair crews and handling customer calls.

      Initiates procurement of materials supplies and equipment, which includes working with contractors and vendors, obtaining preliminary quotes, preparing specifications and requisitions as needed; locates suppliers and vendors for specialty supplies and equipment.

      Performs as safety coordinator for the section. Develops safety training programs for repair crews; prepares reports on safety meetings; acquires and maintains pertinent regulations and information to support the safety program.

      Provides traffic control and field work as necessary.

      Conducts random and periodic inspections of equipment, supplies and tools for quantity and physical condition.

      Receives and ships chemicals, equipment, etc., including unloading trucks.

      Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.

      High school diploma or equivalent certificate of competency.

      Possession of a Valid Florida Class CDL driver's license, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.

      Possession of a Class certification as a Water Distribution Technician or Wastewater Collection Technician, or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.

      Ability to obtain Forklift and Confined Space certifications within one (1) year of hire.

      Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

      Experience with use of spreadsheet and/or database computer software highly desired.

      Two (2) years' experience in water/wastewater underground utilities or plant maintenance desired.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      Knowledge of materials, parts, fittings, electrical components, and specialized equipment utilized in water/wastewater underground utilities or plant maintenance.

      Knowledge of applicable occupational safety and health rules, precautions and safety equipment relating to underground utility or plant work.

      Ability to establish and maintain effective records for parts and equipment inventory and asset management.

      Ability to read, understand and communicate pertinent information from available record drawings, as-builts, sketches and other records.

      Ability to develop and maintain harmonious relationships with vendors, customers, support repair crews, supervisors, and others.

      Ability to climb and descend ladders and stairs.

      Ability to work overtime and weekend hours as required.

      Ability to safely operate a forklift and obtain Forklift certification within one (1) year of hire.

      Ability to obtain Confined Space certification within one (1) year of hire.

      Skills in spreadsheet and/or database computer software.

      Skill in operation of transport vehicles and trailers, and ability to load and operate dump trucks.
