No experience required
Within one year, must obtain a Class I Water Distribution Certification or Class I Wastewater Collection Certification
At least two years of experience in any Utility Division repair and/or operations areas.
Class I Water Distribution Certification or Class I Wastewater Collection Certification required
Within two years, must obtain a Class II Water Distribution Certification or Class II Wastewater Collection Certification
Must be 18 years or older
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
Within 6 months of employment, must obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class B (must be maintained for continued employment)
The successful candidate must pass all pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes including interview, reference checks, criminal background checks and pre-placement DOT physical and drug screen
Able and willing to work on-call duty which requires working weekends on a rotating basis and working all hours during emergency repairs as needed
Specific experience in Water preferred
- The noise level in the environment is usually loud

- Duties require a full range of physical motion to perform manual labor, including heavy lifting and digging, for extended periods of time under all weather conditions
- The incumbent is exposed to the following environmental factors: work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious or dark, wet underground places; work in or near moving traffic, fumes, airborne particles, offensive odors, infectious materials, electrical shock, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration
- Physical demands are described as very heavy (exert in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally for material handling demands and pushing/pulling forces, and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly in order to move objects)
- Subject to random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident alcohol and substance abuse testing as required by law

The Utilities Division consists of a team of 30 staff that work hand in hand to ensure all residents of Broomfield have access to clean water and proper collection of storm and sewer water by maintaining the water distribution system, the wastewater collection system, and the reuse system.
The Utilities team is currently looking for a Full-time Utilities Technician at level I or II (depending on qualifications/experience). Please see the Minimum Qualifications section below detailing the training/experience required.
Total Compensation Package
14 days paid vacation + 10 sick days + 12 paid holidays per year
No probationary period - start accruing your leave day 1
Stable year-round employment with a 4X10 schedule with a 3 day weekend
Most evenings and weekends off (on-call duty required 4 times per year)

Utilities Technician I - $21.12 - $28.58/hour
Utilities Technician II - $25.61 - $34.65/hour
The Position
We have current openings on the Water crew. Main duties include: inspecting and maintaining utility infrastructure, responding to main breaks or backups, and repairing utilities infrastructure. This position will receive instruction and training in the operation, servicing, and maintenance of water booster stations and wastewater lift stations. This position supports other Divisions in Public Works such as working as a plow driver for Streets’ Snow and Ice Operations.
