- Learns to perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on plant equipment and structures and assists the maintenance staff as necessary.
- Learns to make necessary adjustments to the treatment process to assure compliance with all rules, regulations, and the facility's standard operating procedures.
- Learns to perform basic physical and chemical analysis to monitor treatment efficiency.
- Informs the Wastewater Treatment Plant Lead Operator of any observed or suspected problems and proceeds with corrective or preventative action, as instructed.
- Takes readings and measurements concerning unit processes, collects samples, records measurements, and helps maintain accurate records of plant operations and maintenance functions.
- Must possess a Class A, B, or C Florida Wastewater Operator license OR to qualify for a trainee position, must be currently enrolled in or have completed a Water/Wastewater treatment course recognized by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP).
- Those qualifying for the trainee position must obtain a Class “C” Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s License as issued by the State of Florida within 18 months from the date of hire in accordance with FDEP regulations.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
Class A Wastewater Oper License: $28.28
Class B Wastewater Oper License: $26.94
Class C Wastewater Oper License: $25.66
Trainee: $21.11
Performs manual and mechanical work as a trainee in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant. Works under the general direction of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or GED and limited related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of formal education and working experience.
**In order to be advanced for consideration, a copy of the high school diploma or GED must be provided at time of application.**
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of operation, maintenance, and repair procedures relating to wastewater treatment, collection, and reuse facilities.
Knowledge of basic repair of pumps and various equipment.
Ability to understand and comply with oral and written instructions.
Ability to read meters and charts accurately.
Ability to maintain records of operations.
Ability to operate a personal computer.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
Ability to work shifts and overtime which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
