      Position Requirements

      Education and Experience

      • High School Diploma or GED.
      • No related work experience is required.
      • Any equivalent combination of certifications, education, or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities for the position.

      Licenses, Registration, and Certifications

      • Must be able to possess and maintain a valid Class 'R' Colorado driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
      • Obtain a valid Class 'B' Colorado Commercial Driver's License within 12 months of appointment in the Source of Supply Section.
      • Obtain a valid Class 'B' Colorado Commercial Driver's License within 12 months of appointment in the Water Distribution Section as described below.
      • A valid Medical Card may be required within 12 months of appointment in the Support Services section.
      • Water Distribution Section Only
        • Medical Card and CDL required for:
          • BU 1007055410 Main Breaks & Valve Repairs
          • BU 1007055420 Service Lines
          • BU 1007055430 Hydrants
        • CDL not required for:
          • BU 1007051000 Water Distribution Admin

          • BU 1007054300 Valve Ops
          • BU 1007055200 Street Work

      Safety Sensitive Requirements

      This is a safety sensitive job where an employee's direct action/inaction may lead to immediate harm to self, team, or the public and/or will have significant risk to the mission of Denver Water.       Job Description

      Position Summary

      Under direct supervision, perform a variety of laboring and unskilled to semi-skilled duties related to the operation and maintenance of treatment plants, transmission & distribution, and source of supply. Clean tools, truck, and worksite while on a job.

      Supervisory Responsibilities
      This position does not have supervisory responsibilities over other employees.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      • Place and connect pipe, hydrants, valves and valve boxes.
      • Operate equipment such as pavement breakers, compressors, jackhammers, chain saws, skimmers, tampers, mowers, loaders, clay spades, and related equipment. Operate equipment such as utility trucks, dump trucks, and other equipment. Place barricades.
      • Assist in the maintenance of buildings, equipment, drains, sewers, siphons, and similar facilities. Keep tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and orderly condition. Oil and grease machinery.
      • Clean, maintain, regulate, and ensure the unrestricted passage of water through canals, ditches, and other conveyances. Clean trash racks, perform maintenance on the lining of a variety of pipes, take readings, and issue daily reports concerning water flow.
      • Use a variety of tools and resources including electronic pipe locator, measuring wheel, maps, and GIS system to locate water mains, conduits, and service lines.
      • May rotate within different trade shops assisting employees of higher crafts or skills in the performance of special or regularly assigned work such as servicing automotive vehicles, painting, light electrical, and beginning welding duties.
      • Carry out the organization's Safety program through job performance and attendance at scheduled safety meetings.
      • May be required to perform on call duty, work shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as directed, and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
      • Must be able to perform safety sensitive functions -- This applies to Water Treatment, Water Control and Electric Shop sections only.
      • Perform related work as required.
