Job Description

- Perform cleaning and sanitary maintenance duties, including sweeping, mopping, waxing, vacuuming, dusting, and empty trash containers.
- Cleans mirrors, fixtures, windows, walls, and drinking fountains.
- Assist in keeping outside premises in an orderly condition.
- Perform set-up and break down of tables, chairs, bleachers, ramps, dance floors, air walls and staging, and hang drapes as required for conventions, meetings and other Portland Expo Center events utilizing schematic drawings and narrative descriptions.
- Monitor buildings during shows to ensure restrooms are stocked, trash containers are emptied, and water services are replenished.
- Monitor inventory and coordinate purchase of maintenance and custodial supplies.
- Picks up garbage from parking lots, and pressure wash.
- Remove ice and snow; apply ice melt to sidewalks and walkways.
- Place temporary signage, event equipment and or flagging as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Basic knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in a facility cleaning or groundskeeping/landscape operation.
- Basic knowledge of safety and fire codes related to room setup.
- Skill in the proper use of janitorial equipment and tools used in performance of the job.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions including operating manuals and application instructions supplied by product manufacturers.
- Ability to read and understand schematic setup diagrams.
- Ability to operate forklifts, high lifts, golf carts, sweepers, and scrubbers and perform moderate to heavy tasks as required.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with co-workers and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all people.
- Ability to fulfill Metro’s employees’ values of public service, excellence, teamwork, respect, innovation, and sustainability.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a similar position; AND
- Possession of and ability to maintain a valid driver’s license; AND
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain the following:
- Forklift operator’s license
- Aerial work platform certification
- Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate
- We will consider any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holiday as assigned.
- Perform all necessary setup of tables, chairs, staging and other building material.
- Walk, stand, and work on concreate floors for extended periods of time.
- Bend and stoop frequently
- Work on elevated platforms or ladders.
- Lift and carry 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Push and pull up to 300 pounds on a regular basis.

TO QUALIFY

Minimum qualifications:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors on a year-round basis. Incumbents may be exposed to all types of weather conditions. Work is physical in nature with exposure to various chemicals and dust. Gloves, masks, and other personal protective equipment are required while performing some duties.

Based on the Oregon Pay Equity Act requirements, Metro’s internal equity review process, and the candidates’ qualifications, the appointment will typically be made between $23.81 per hour to the equity range of $27.57 per hour. The full salary range for this position is $23.81 per hour to $31.92 per hour.
This position is eligible for overtime and is represented by AFSCME 3580. It is classified as a Utility Worker. Classification descriptions are typically written broadly and do not include the specific duties and responsibilities of the positions.
