      Value Analyst Fellowship

      Overview:

      Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is hiring for a value analyst fellow in the value management office. The goal of the value management office is to accelerate the development of capabilities to deliver the highest quality and most cost-efficient musculoskeletal care to the patients we serve. The fellow will have the opportunity to gain exposure to the development and deployment of high value musculoskeletal care solutions with the unmatched clinical and operational expertise, data assets, and analytical skills found only at HSS. Key focus areas of value include measurement and communication, care delivery redesign, innovative tool development, research, education, and advocacy.

      The value analyst fellow will be required to act as an analyst in the conceptualization, design, and validation of novel quality measures for improving diagnosis for orthopedic conditions. This role will be 18 months in duration and will report to the AVP and director of the HSS Center for the Advancement of Musculoskeletal Care. The role will allow for exposure to multiple aspects of HSS including leading clinicians, Information Technology, and analytics. External stakeholders will include foundations, think tanks, and health systems. This is an ideal role for an early career, entry-level health professional with interests in learning about measure development and/or the role of IT and analytics in creating a learning health system.

      Responsibilities will include:

      • Preparing materials for discussion with members of the project team
      • Ensuring accountability to deadlines
      • Documenting analysis and ensuring accountability of action steps in measure development
      • Performing data cleaning, normalization, mapping, and validation
      • Design and implement analyses to evaluate measures and address additional research questions that reinforce the evidence base for measurement
      • Work with external stakeholders to inform analysis

      Qualifications

      • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; Master’s degree (MPH, MHA, or equivalent) preferred
      • Minimum 2 years working in an analytical role (e.g., consulting, research, marketing, data science).
      • Strong proficiency in statistical software and programming (e.g., R, SAS, Python, STATA)
      • Expertise working with large administrative datasets (e.g., SPARCS, HCUP, Medicare’s Standard Analytic File, commercial administrative datasets).
      • Interest or exposure to quality measurement, working with electronic medical records, or working knowledge of health IT standards such as FHIR.
      • Prior experience translating data for lay audiences, including the production of presentations for senior-level audiences; demonstrated ability to think strategically about data end-use
      • Effective verbal and written communication skills
      • Ability to interact effectively with management, technical and vendor teams
