What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Maintain and coordinate the West Nile Virus Dead Bird Surveillance Program
- Evaluate and respond to reports of dead birds for testing
- Train and direct program staff and ensure accurate data recording
- Provide consultation on surveillance protocols and test results
- Analyze statewide dead bird surveillance data and prepare reports
What is Required (Qualifications):
- General knowledge of vector-borne disease prevention, surveillance, and control methods
- Excellent writing and speaking skills for effective communication with the public and professionals
- Experience working with large datasets
- Willingness to conduct laboratory and field work
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and work independently
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience working in field and laboratory settings
- General knowledge of ornithology and California bird species
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with databases
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
