- The purpose of commonly encountered materials, parts, and equipment used in tree trimming or arboriculture industry
- Pruning methods, materials, standards, and equipment
- The purpose of commonly encountered materials, parts, and equipment used in utility vegetation management industry
- Basic use of personal computers
- Good interpersonal communications
- Work 8–10-hour days in a very physically demanding role while maintaining positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other members of a work team
- Maintain neat, accurate, and legible records
- Respond to emergencies in excess of normal working hours
- Work overtime at the discretion of the supervisor
- Work independently in a self-directed manner
- Work outside in inclement weather
- Operate hand and power tools, vehicles and large wood processing equipment
- High School diploma or GED
- 1 year of general work experience that includes physical labor and working outdoors
- 3 years of general work experience that includes physical labor, utility experience, arboriculture or tree trimming
- An equivalent combination of appropriate training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
- Must obtain First Aid/CPR card within 90 days and maintain vegetation management certifications

What does a Vegetation Management Groundman do for us?
They perform a variety of labor duties necessary to assist journey level workers in clearing vegetation away from distribution and transmission infrastructure. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the ability to walk on uneven terrain while carrying chainsaw, pruning equipment, and laptop. Must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be able to push and pull up to 50 pounds. Sustained awkward postures with crouching, kneeling, bending/stooping, and twisting is required in performing manual dexterity activities, gripping, pushing, pulling, and using hand tools. Must be able to operate 2- and 4-wheel drive vehicles, UTVs, and ATVs. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Operates as part of a crew supporting the Foreman and Tree Trimmer. Involves travel with overnight stays.Temporary employees are eligible to apply for internal job postings. Internal, regular employees who are successful candidates will be placed as regular employees in a Temporary Duty Assignment job classification. In order for your current position to be held for your return, qualified employees must have supervisory approval to participate and have been in their current position for at least six months.
