      Venture Scout Fellow

      RealmSpark identifies early-stage education technologies that empower the attainment of the university’s charter. RealmSpark provides mid- to long-term financial return for equity investments and/or “access for equity.” This double bottom line makes RealmSpark unique.

      The Student Venture Scout Fellow will support the ASU RealmSpark team within ASU Enterprise Partners (ASUEP). The primary responsibility of this role is to assist with identifying promising early-stage startups for our investment programs. The Fellow will gain a deep understanding of current trends and emerging technologies through applied learning projects and will have exclusive access to mentors and thought leaders via the RealmSpark Lunch & Learn series.

      This position will report directly to the director of RealmSpark and Investor Engagement and is expected to work approximately 5 hours per week, primarily remotely, on a flexible schedule. There will be bi-weekly in-person meetings on Fridays from 12-1 p.m. Additionally, there will be opportunities to participate in occasional evening events.

      What you'll do:

      • Proactively source and identify high-potential startups that align with our program's investment focus areas

      • Attend entrepreneurial events across the ASU ecosystem

      • Participate in screening calls with founders

      • Get a first-hand look at how angel and venture capital investors make decisions by shadowing the full due diligence process for startups you identify

      • Support RealmSpark events that convene entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts

      • Make new connections between RealmSpark and ASU departments, faculty, or programs related to entrepreneurship

      • Support RealmSpark portfolio companies with project-based work as needed

      • Other duties as assigned

      What you'll need:

      • Curiosity and passion for innovation

      • Basic understanding of the venture capital process

      • A self-starter with strong work ethic and the ability to self-manage your time and priorities

      • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with founders and investors

      • Ability to represent the institution well, including the ability and willingness to proactively initiate fundraising-related discussions with ASU alumni, faculty and other entrepreneurs as appropriate

      • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Enterprise Partners, its subsidiaries and University business and confidential prospect information

      • Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing assigned duties

      • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

      • An advocate’s belief in the vision of ASU as the New American University

      • Knowledge of Airtable or similar data management tool

      Relevant qualifications:

      Must be an Arizona State University student pursuing a degree in science, technology, engineering, or a business-related field
