      Venue Manager- Intergenerational Center:

      Working under the direction and supervision of the Director and Assistant Director of the Parks, Recreation & Conservation Department, the Venue Manager is a highly responsible administrative professional position responsible for overseeing the Intergenerational Recreation Center (iG). An employee in this position is responsible for managing all aspects of the iG, including reservation contract oversight and scheduling, purchasing and budget oversight, supervising support and maintenance staff, directing and overseeing facility maintenance, scheduling programs and reservations, and cooperatively supervising recreation services held within the facility. This position is responsible for the management and administration of contracts for reservations including generating leads for business and working with the Marketing and Event Coordinator to recruit new recreational and activity programming. Work requires the exercise of considerable initiative and independent judgment.



      • Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work as related to staff assigned to the iG including scheduling work activities to meet set objectives; develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate facility coverage; provides necessary onboarding and training to new and existing employees, ensures that subordinates have the proper resources and tools necessary to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with various County Departmental liaisons to assist with improvements and repairs of the facility; provides progress and activity reports to the Director and Assistant Director.
      • Works with Recreation programming staff to schedule, implement and promote classes, leagues, events, and programs held within the iG; works with administrative staff to ensure that the facility’s marketing objectives are successful and assists in the creation, publication, and distribution of flyers, brochures, emails, social media content, etc.
      • Supervises and coordinates with contracted instructors, service providers, and vendors. Ensures compliance with County policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
      • Oversees the facility’s scheduling calendar; schedules facility reservations; prepares for scheduled events; conducts safety checks and inspections of facilities; prepares and submits work orders for maintenance and repair needs; and ensures compliance with safety policies, procedures, rules, regulations, codes, and laws.
      • Receives, processes, and documents program/facility fees and payments; oversees daily deposits. Maintains program enrollments and facility use. Generates analysis of facility use and revenues received.
      • Purchases and maintains inventories of equipment and supplies; and assists in monitoring revenues and expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget.
      • Performs general customer service and administrative duties as required. Greets visitors; provides information regarding facility programs, fees, and forms. Receives and responds to inquiries and concerns of citizens regarding facility programs, policies and/or personnel.
      • Communicates with supervisor, subordinates, other County employees, contractors, the public, outside agencies and organizations, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
      • Processes a variety of documentation associated with facility operations, within designated timeframes, and per established procedures: receives, reviews, prepares, completes, processes, forwards, or retains as appropriate various forms, reports, correspondence, invoices, checks, payment forms, program/attendance reports, contracts/agreements, employee performance appraisals/warnings, meeting agendas and minutes, budget and financial records and associated documentation; compiles data for processing or for use in the preparation of facility reports; and maintains organized computerized and/or hardcopy records.
      • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff: plans, directs, and reviews work of individuals and the team; processes employee concerns and problems and counsels as appropriate; coordinates with Director/Assistant Director on necessary corrective or disciplinary actions; completes employee performance appraisals; participates in interviews and makes hiring recommendations; acts as a liaison between employees and the Director/Asst Director; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures. Develops staff schedules and maintains records; reviews and processes timesheets and schedules time off for assigned staff.
      • Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Internet, e-mail, or other software; operates general office or other equipment as necessary; and operates audiovisual and sound equipment, sports equipment, maintenance equipment, scoreboards, or other equipment to complete essential functions.


      Education/Experience:

      Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Leisure Services, Business Administration, Hospitality, or a related field, supplemented by a minimum of (2) two years of experience administering recreation/hospitality programs and facilities, including supervisory experience. An Associates of Arts degree with a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Parks and Recreation programs/Venue Management to include direct experience with venue programming, maintenance, operations, and facility management may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree at time of hire.

      Under this provision, the Bachelor’s degree must be obtained within four years of date of hire.


      Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:

      • Valid Florida Driver’s License
      • Must obtain Crowd Management Certification within 30 days of hire.

      Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

      Knowledge of recreation philosophy and theory with considerable emphasis on best practices and techniques of hospitality-based facilities management.


      Ability to cooperatively plan programs, coordinate and organize special events, appropriately staff the facility, and oversee third-party contracts and agreements for the benefit of County residents and visitors.


      Demonstrated ability to direct, oversee, and motivate staff to maintain the iG facility and achieve division goals.


      Ability to make written and oral presentations for the public and staff of plans, programs, and budgets.


      Ability to conduct point-of-sale transactions, process deposits per County Finance policies, and prepare reservation contracts/license agreements.


      Excellent computer ability including Microsoft Office and its various applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).


      Ability to learn Civic Rec (or similar scheduling/POS software), Munis, Kronos, and applications used for digital content creation.


      Skill and knowledge of all phases of venue/facility management and a basic understanding of recreation programming.


      Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully and establish effective working relationships with staff, management, key stakeholders, and the general public.


      Ability to demonstrate flexibility and teamwork in a recreational venue for both athletic and non-athletic programming, special events, and community/private facility reservations.


      Performs other duties and assignments as requested.

      WORKING CONDITIONS:

      Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays. All Indian River County Parks and Recreation Staff are considered Essential Employees and must be available for assignments (pre and post) declared and undeclared emergencies.
