      The Human Resources Division is posting this position on behalf of the Office of Veteran Advocate.

      The Commonwealth of Massachusetts seeks a dynamic and experienced strategic professional to lead the Office of the Veteran Advocate [OVA]. The Veteran Advocate will oversee a newly established independent state agency whose focus is to ensure that veterans in the Commonwealth receive humane, safe, and dignified treatment and effective services in a timely manner and compliance with existing laws and regulations.

      Are you a professional that has veteran’s welfare as your priority and passion, lead by example and manage with accountability, communicate effectively with diverse populations for impact and facilitating change? The Veteran Advocate will lead the agency in establishing operations that support these efforts including, but not limited to developing and sustaining relationships within the veterans’ community and managing operational procedures internally and among all state executive agencies and federal entities to achieve OVA’s mission and goals. You will be responsible for standing up a new state agency, including developing an organizational structure and hiring to build out the organization, setting direction for the new agency, and instituting policies and procedures to ensure that the organization delivers on that direction.

      NOTE: The Veteran Advocate is appointed without regard to political affiliation and based on integrity and demonstrated ability perform designated duties. The Veteran Advocate serves a term of 5 years; however, the Veteran Advocate may not serve for more than 2 full terms.

Finalists selected will receive an offer commensurate with experience and comparable to other similar state positions. Please note salary will be paid on a bi-weekly basis. Salary posted is annualized.

      The ideal candidate will have at least eight (8) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in leading initiatives supporting veteran’s welfare with integrity and progressively more responsible roles with at least six (6) years in a managerial capacity. The successful candidate will also have a background in business, public, or clinical administration. Military service experience is strongly preferred.
