      The Position

      This role is responsible for leading the Compensation and Benefits Team for more than 6,000 employees located across North America (U.S. and Canada) which represents over $8B of the company's annual revenue. The North America Total Rewards and Benefits organization covers:

      Compensation and Benefits for North America - where applicable, this will include components of Broad-Based Compensation, Executive Compensation and Sales Compensation. This role is responsible for the strategic design and direction of the holistic Center of Excellence (COE) which requires a careful balance of competing yet equally important considerations: compliance (internal & external governance), investment/fiduciary responsibility, employee impact/experience and labor market competitiveness.

      The purpose of the COE is to ensure that the company can attract, retain and motivate our employee talent as well as ensuring an optimal experience. This role is responsible for ensuring the practices, policies and business activities of the COE are contemporary and compliant while prudently managing our fiscal spend and safeguarding employee engagement in the process.

      This role requires strong leadership skills in motivating a multi-disciplined team to collaborate to execute critical initiatives and for serving on various Committees (outlined below to proactively solve complex business challenges.)

      Relationships

      This position reports to the Corporate Vice President, Total Rewards & Mobility. This role currently has ~6 direct reports and a total team size of 10 employees. The direct reporting team includes Rewards partners and a Senior Director Benefits.

      In this role you will partner with key internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to: Corporate HQ (particularly with Total Rewards & Mobility, and Corporate Legal); NNI Executive Team, US Employers Board, NAO HR Leadership Team, the EVP, North America Operations, Finance, Communications, Legal, Sales, LOB (lines of business) leaders, Senior HRBPs, external vendors, independent consultants, and internal and external auditors.

      Must build and maintain trusting and collaborative relationships and alliances with others inside and outside of the organization in ways that accomplish key business objectives; and facilitates others to do the same. Constructive debate with key stakeholders is encouraged to solve complex business issues. Serves as a valued advisor and partner by providing influential counsel and guidance to business leaders across the organization to safeguard the organization and support the growth of the organization.

      Committees: This role is responsible for leading, directing and participating in the agendas and priorities of the following governance bodies: Benefits and Compensation Committee, Retirement Committee, and Total Rewards and Mobility Management Team.

      Essential Functions

      • Compensation
        • This role has strategic oversight for driving the pay for performance philosophy under the North America Compensation function
        • This function includes components of Broad-Based Compensation, Executive Compensation and Sales Compensation
        • This position must ensure we are competitive and compliant with respect to the total rewards package provided to the employee population
        • This function has responsibility for base salary and variable pay programs (annual incentive plans, sales incentive plans, LTI cash, recognition programs, etc.)
        • This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations/ governing bodies including DOL, FLSA, pay equity, pay transparency, SEC compliance, US tax laws, and all Canadian laws that impact Total Rewards
        • This role requires partnership with HQ Total Rewards, particularly in matters of equity and executive compensation per required governance
      • Benefits
        • This role has strategic oversight for the North America Benefits function which includes fiscal responsibility for active health & welfare programs, wellness programs and retirement plans
        • This function includes Broad Based Employee Benefits, Executive Benefits and Perquisites, Voluntary Benefits, and legally required Benefits
        • This position plays an instrumental role in the design and approach of North America Benefits Strategy, and ensuring we remain competitive and compliant with respect to the total rewards package provided to the employee population

        • This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations/ governing bodies including ERISA, IRS, ACA, and monitoring the dynamic political and regulatory environment with respect to employee benefits globally

      Physical Requirements

      0-10% overnight travel required.

      Development of People

      Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.

      Qualifications

      • A Bachelor degree is required
      • Advanced degree in M.S. Human Resources, Finance or MBA preferred
      • A keen understanding of the competitive marketplace and industry best practices, particularly in the pharmaceutical industry and the North American labor market. Global Rewards experience strongly preferred. Must be able to monitor trends and developments in the political, regulatory and competitive labor market to assess potential impact on the organization and develop appropriate HR and business strategies and approaches
      • Must operate with the highest level of business ethics and integrity, particularly given the fiduciary responsibility of the role as well as access to highly confidential and proprietary information
      • A Minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible HR or other relevant roles, with a strong legal and technical background in Compensation and Benefits a must
      • A minimum of 6 years supervisory and leadership experience required
      • Active memberships and interaction with relevant professional organizations to stay current on industry trends and regulatory developments, including but not limited to: SHRM, World at Work, International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP), etc.
      • Requires strategic agility to navigate internal business operations and complexity, including partnerships with various legal entities and affiliates
      • Additional critical skills include strong quantitative, financial modeling, and technical systems proficiency. Strong negotiation, vendor management, and presentation skills are essential
      • Demonstrated flexibility, creativity and change management in a high-performing and fast-paced environment
      • Leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate a vision and engage and inspire people in that vision
