      1. Position Summary

      The Vice President of University Communications & Marketing (“Vice President”) is a strategic leadership role responsible for developing and executing comprehensive marketing and communication strategies that strengthen and enhance the university’s internal and external brand, drive enrollment growth and institutional awareness to achieve the university’s top academic priorities and outcomes. Key to this position is responsibility for establishing rapport and collaboration among all stakeholders in supporting the branding strategy to ensure the growth and success of the University and drive revenue (through student interest and fundraising support) in alignment with its Marianist mission, vision, and values.

      1. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      Strategic Planning

      • Provides leadership and vision for the University’s strategic and integrated marketing and communications functions.
      • Conceptualizes, evaluates, and implements communication strategies and priorities in support of the University’s strategic planning efforts.
      • As a member of the Senior Leadership team, acts as a strategic thought partner and influencer for proactive communication and brand management.

      Leadership and Collaboration

      • Leads the University Communications & Marketing team and supervises and evaluates the work of all subordinate staff members, contractors, and vendors to produce exceptional marketing communications while ensuring productivity and adherence to deadlines.
      • Coordinates and collaborates with all University departments to carry out strategic priorities. Remains current with all campus and program information, including new program offerings.
      • Creates a collegial, team-building work environment, motivating staff and cultivating productive, collaborative relationships with stakeholder groups in alignment with Marianist core values.

      Brand Management

      • Serves as the University’s brand manager, with the responsibility of positioning the University in the market, determining target audiences and maintaining the desired reputation driven by Marianist values.
      • Proactively identify opportunities to build and protect the University's reputation.
      • IN collaboration with University partners, leads the University in creating the institutional marketing and branding for all communications and publications efforts including those used for student recruitment, academic programs, and advancement purposes.

      Public and Media Relations

      • Oversees the development and execution of programs necessary to communicate the University’s mission and performance to the public including marketing, public relations, social media, print publications and advertisements.
      • Oversees the development and implementation of the University’s overall communication, promotional and public relations strategies to enhance the institution’s visibility and reputation.
      • Fosters strong relationships with media representatives.

      Communication

      • Ensures development of internal strategies that effectively deliver key messages to important stakeholders.
      • Manages website, public calendar, print communication and social media for effective messaging to internal and external stakeholders.
      • Collaborate and support leadership team with emergency communication responses and contribute to development and updating of emergency communication plans.
      • Promote reputation‐centric messages and assist with identifying/mitigating emerging issues when communications strategies are useful.
      • Informs the campus community as needed to keep constituents education on new project initiatives and core marketing messages.

      Budget Management

      • Prepares budget annually to support strategic objectives of the University. Ensure a fiscally sound operation.
      • Manages contractor and vendor contracts and negotiates as needed to remain fiscally sound.

      1. Education and Experience

      Minimum Education and Experience:

      • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, graphic design, English or related field.
      • 3 to 5 years’ of extensive and progressive marketing and communications experience with a proven track record of success in developing and executing effective marketing strategies.
      • Proven ability to lead and manage a high-performing team.
      • Experience with addressing the public through audio, video and written word.
      • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

      Preferred Education and Experience:

      • Master’s degree in related field.
      • Experience in marketing and communications at an institution of higher education.

      1. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
      • Must have established contacts with printing vendors, designers, and photographers; extensive knowledge of graphic design and printing processes and related technology experience in writing/design techniques for the web.
      • Demonstrated ability in copy writing, editing and meeting deadlines required. Experience in managing multiple projects and production schedules required.
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
      • Demonstrated credibility to work well under pressure and to consistently meet deadlines.
      • Ability to collaborate and partner with faculty, staff, students, committee members and Board members.
      • Understanding of market research methods.
      • Ability to lead marketing committees as needed.
      • Proven track record of supervising a marketing and communications team.
      • Mobility required for job related functions errands and other on- and off-campus assignments.

      1. Physical Requirements

      Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 2 0 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

      1. Other Requirements:
      • Must have a valid Drivers License.
      • This is a full time, exempt position. Forty (40) hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and have a varying schedule when required
