- Answers calls or emails from victims requesting assistance.
- Reaches out to victims that have been identified by Unit staff, law enforcement partners or other requestors offering support, resources or other assistance as appropriate.
- Assesses the needs of the victims and develops a plan to address those needs, providing advocacy, assistance and referrals as appropriate.
- Helps victims regain their emotional well-being and restore their good name by means of advocacy, intervention and support.
- Collaborates both internally at CBI and externally with victim advocates, law enforcement officers, prosecutor’s offices, Victim Compensation and any other appropriate agencies.
- When applicable, ensures victims are informed of their rights as a crime victim under the Colorado Victim Rights Amendment.
- This position may assist co-victims of cold case homicides and/or missing person cases.
- Must demonstrate compassion and care about the victims of ID theft;
- Understanding of identity theft and fraud nature and specifics;
- Thorough understanding of the of victim advocate's role that goes beyond the scope of Victim Crime Act (VRA);
- Understanding of the victims of identity theft and fraud victims' needs;
- Is able to work collaboratively in a team environment;
- Excellent problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills;
- Strong written and oral communication skills;
- Ability to present to small and large groups of stakeholders.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Requires successful completion of a background investigation that includes a polygraph exam, a fingerprint based criminal history search, drug screen, credit report check, personal evaluation profile.

About the Work UnitThe Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) Fraud Investigators Unit (CFI), at the request of state, local or federal law enforcement agencies or the Governor, investigates criminal violations of the Colorado revised statutes, and organized criminal activity that transcends jurisdictional boundaries. The Unit investigates, responds to, develops training relative to matters involving identity theft and financial fraud. The Unit financial institutions as it relates to identity theft and fraud.About the JobThis is a full-time position designed to support the Victim Assistance Program in providing comprehensive services to victims of identity theft, fraud and related crimes. This position will provide direct services to victims to help them regain their emotional well-being, understand the criminal justice process and access resources available. It will assist victims with all forms of identity theft in repairing the damage and restoring their good name. The needs of the victims will be assessed, appropriate services and advocacy provided, and referrals will be made to appropriate organizations. The position is expected to work in collaboration with victim assistance programs in law enforcement and criminal justice agencies, and with community-based victim assistance programs. This position will also provide community education presentations and professional training.
Key Responsibilities
DIRECT SERVICES TO VICTIMS
Provides victims with assistance, support, advocacy and resources to address their needs as victims of crime, specifically identity theft and fraud and related crimes.
Specific examples of regular, ongoing decisions made by this position related to this duty.
Participates in community education presentations and professional training and participate in community outreach events such as fairs.
DATA COLLECTION AND REPORT WRITINGCollects statistical data, produces reports through the Unit’s case management system. Utilizes and contributes to spreadsheets. Assists as needed with grant reporting, board reports and other related reports.
Works in collaboration with internal Units, external victim assistance programs, law enforcement agencies, criminal justice agencies and community programs to support the victims being served.NOTE: To be considered for this position, you must meet one of the following options for consideration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Five (5) years of relevant experience in a victim advocate or social services specialist position.
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience as a victim advocate or social services specialist, equal to five (5) years.
