      The Victim Advocate is responsible for providing assistance to victims of crime.

      • Prepares and sends information packets to victims; provides victims with detailed information concerning victim rights, the criminal justice process and sources of assistance.
      • Performs administrative and personal service duties; notifies victims and witnesses as to case status information; contacts victims regarding impending court dates.
      • Trains, supervises and evaluates the work of interns.
      • Accompanies victims to court.
      • Assists victims or witnesses with crime related problems, performs need assessment with victims and witnesses to determine appropriate actions and/or referrals.
      • Verifies need for restitution.
      • Maintains accurate and confidential records of contacts with victims.
      • Coordinates travel arrangements for victims and witnesses and transports victims and witnesses as needed.
      • Assists with the coordination of activities for National Victims' Rights Week.
      • Assists in the public education campaign of the office.
      • Obtains and analyzes victim statistics.
      • Assists the Victim-Witness Coordinator.
      • Collaborates with other agencies/victim service providers to assist victims and witnesses.
      • Performs other related duties as assigned.

      High School or GED – prefer degree with minimum of five (5) years work experience performing high level administrative support duties, three (3) of which were in a legal or court setting.

      • Proven knowledge of legal procedures, forms, documents and terminology, business letter writing, general office procedures and practices, the Uniform Rules of the Court, correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
      • Ability to handle confidential materials with discretion.
      • Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and security of private information.
      • Research/compile data, establish communication and maintain working relationship with others, work independently
      • Strong oral and communication skills.
      • Ability to work effectively with members of all levels within the organization as well as in public.
      • Ability to achieve results on a timely basis.
