      The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office’s Community Assistance Program provides service to victim of serious crime or traumatic incidents by having trained volunteers respond to the victims, either immediately on-scene, or as quickly as possible after a crime or critical incident occurs. The work is accomplished by victim advocate teams: one team working on-call to provide immediate response and the other team providing outreach to victims. The Volunteer Advocate Coordinator is a part of the Community Assistance Team and is responsible for coordinating and monitoring crime reports from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Lafayette PD, and Louisville PD to provide both on-scene and outreach to victims who have not been served by the on-call on-scene volunteer advocates. The coordinator also shares responsibility for recruiting, vetting, and training volunteer advocates. The coordinator supervises 35+ volunteers who contact victims of crime to provide crisis intervention, community resources and referrals.


      New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire , in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month.

      1. Supervises 35+ volunteer victim advocates in the on-scene & outreach activities, i.e., contact victims of crime.
      2. Provides direct services to victim of crime and traumatic events, which includes but not limited to, crisis intervention, emotional support, victim rights information, education on criminal justice system, connection to community resources, and short-term case management.
      3. Provides both trauma informed and victim-centered approaches when working with the victims of crime and traumatic events.
      4. Understands, upholds, and assists in the education of victim rights per statutory and constitutional law.
      5. Participate, along with the program director, in the collaborative multi-agency effort to recruit and train volunteers.
      6. Collects data from law enforcement reports, prepares them for case assignments, and assign these cases to outreach volunteers.
      7. Develop and maintain working relationships with key contacts within the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Lafayette PD, Louisville PD, and other agencies and service providers in the County to care for victims of crime.
      8. Attends meetings, workshops, trainings, conferences as necessary to maintain ongoing knowledge of laws and resources.
      9. Participate in recruiting activates, interviews, and the selection of volunteer advocates hired in the Victim Assistance Program.
      10. Participates in the training and certification of new Volunteer Victim Advocates.
      11. Schedules the Volunteer Advocates for their monthly on-call shifts and maintains the On-Call/On-Scene monthly calendar.
      12. Directly supervises and supports the volunteer advocates including a minimum of two individual in office meetings each year with each volunteer advocate.
      13. Carries a pager and supervises the On-Call Volunteer Advocates during normal business hours and participates on a rotating 7-day cycle of afterhours On Call Supervisor.
      14. Performs other duties as assigned.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

      • Knowledge of the Colorado Victims’ Rights Act and Amendments, victim assistance, and the criminal justice system.
      • Ability to understand and relate to diverse populations.
      • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of volunteer management.
      • Organizational skills
      • Ability to work effectively with other employees and the public.

      Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field
      • Two years of professional experience in related human service field or and equivalent combination of educations experience.
      Bi-lingual applicant preferred: Ability to read, write, speak, and understand other languages desired, however, is not required. Applicants who meet these bi-lingual criteria may be eligible for an additional stipend (criteria set forth by Boulder County. To be eligible for stipend pay, employees must be tested to prove proficiency).

      Physical Requirements: Primarily sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing; frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard and office equipment; vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and members of the public.
