- Provide emotional and follow-up support for mental health or substance abuse clients: aftercare, support groups, directed case management, advocacy and networking services
- Briefly interview new clients and arrange clinical services, make referrals and assist in treatment compliance
- Give assistance in emergency or crisis times in conjunction with the Health Aides, Village Public Safety Officers and the mental health clinician on call
- Provide prevention and wellness education and activities in the community as determined by the community and BHS: youth group activities; elder support activities; community workshops and lectures; parenting classes; community based projects that serve the well being of the client, youth, elders and/or community
- Engage, complete and practice the skills and knowledge offered through the VBC/BHA programs and the UAF/RHS training and education program
- Complete administrative and work related activities: formal record of activities and expenditures; record keeping; etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Knowledge of behavioral health issues in their village and the community’s strengths

Purpose of Position:
Under the direction of the VBC Supervisor, this position is designed to afford entry level employment, providing training and formal education in the areas of community development, prevention and wellness education and individual and group counseling for substance abuse and mental health concerns: the primary work of this position is the successful completion of the training, education and community level activities that promote healthy lifestyles. The trainee will begin to demonstrate and be assisted in the essential functions of the position.
