- Be on campus from approximately 7:45 am until 3:45 pm on days when school is in session.

- Develop and manage a balanced schedule integrating classes in the library, library management and promotion, and student learning support and extension.
- Participate in Village faculty duties, such as student supervision during recess and dismissal.

- Push into classrooms and pull students from classrooms to provide individualized and small group instruction aligned with evidence-based reading strategies to support and extend reading skills.
- Collaborate with teachers to implement reading support tailored to various skill levels in K-5th grade.
- Provide assistance in information retrieval, research skills, and ethical information usage.
- Facilitate a coherent curriculum that helps students effectively navigate a library, aligns with the Village reading program, and cultivates an excitement about books and love of reading
- Initiate and manage programs and events that cultivate a culture of reading and research, such as storytime sessions, book clubs, guest author visits, and summer reading.
- Bolster Village parent involvement in the library, including training and supporting weekly parent library volunteers.
- Support relevant parent groups to support reading initiatives and programming.
- Collaborate in school-wide events and programming that align with Chadwick's mission and reading curriculum and instruction.
- Oversee the curation of an engaging, diverse, and inclusive library collection suitable for K-5th grade.
- Develop policy and philosophy for and maintain an up-to-date, culturally diverse collection of print and non-print resources appropriate to the Village School curriculum.
- Supervise the cataloging of all Village Library materials.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate student behavior in the library and school spaces.
- Stay informed on current trends in library and information sciences to continually evolve the library's offerings and practices.
- Develop and manage the library budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources for both print and digital materials.
- Supervise the cataloging of library materials and manage online database subscriptions.
- Bachelor’s degree with library experience preferred; Master’s degree in Library Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution preferred
- At least five years teaching elementary education or reading specialist support preferred
- Strong teaching experience with diverse elementary age levels
- Strong knowledge of library operations
- Strong understanding of the various stages of reading development in children from kindergarten through fifth grade and demonstrated ability to tailor and facilitate instruction to meet the needs of students at different reading levels.
- Strong technology skills and experience with library management systems and databases, such as Follett Destiny, LibGuides, and Noodletools
- Strong cultural competency skills grounded in the practices of a school library; a demonstrated commitment to furthering the creation of an equitable and inclusive school community that supports a deep sense of belonging.

- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and an ability to adjust focus.
- May use telephone, computer, copier, and other office equipment in the course of a day.
- Required to sit while operating word processing equipment for approximately 6-8 hours daily, repetitive motion for typing and other keystroke needs.

Position Summary
Chadwick School seeks a dedicated elementary school librarian with a strong focus on reading instruction and support. The ideal candidate will be a highly inspiring, skilled librarian and reading teacher who is passionate about promoting reading across K-5th grade, adept in both individual and small group reading instruction, and committed to creating an engaging, joyful, and dynamic learning environment.
Reporting directly to the Director of Teaching and Learning and working in close partnership with the Village Director and Middle/Upper School Librarian, this specialist will be a highly collaborative faculty partner who values the mission of the school and is committed to empowering students to be enthusiastic readers and critical and creative thinkers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
This specialist will lead the curation and management of a rich, diverse K-5th grade library and engage in innovative ways to help make the Village library a joyful hub of learning and reading. This role will require a deep interest in evaluating and incorporating the continual changes in the fields of library and information sciences and a deep understanding of the needs of this age group.
In addition, this skilled educator will work in close partnership with teachers to develop and facilitate learning experiences in the library aligned with grade-level reading curriculum and to provide targeted individual and small group reading support and extension grounded in evidence-based reading practices.

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCES, AND SKILLS
Compensation: $80,000 to $105,000 based on highest degree earned and years of experience
