- Receive verbal directions from the supervisor regarding operations and assignments. Refer to the specifications for approximate machine settings and use drawings of extruded products or profiles for verification of dimensions. Update drawings as needed.
- Train new employees and current apprentice technicians in all aspects of job requirements.
- Assist in performing preventative maintenance of all equipment in the department as described in work orders provided by the Maintenance Department.
- Dismantle, clean, and inspect dies and set-ups. Store dies and tools properly in the storage area.
- Make recommendations for die replacement when established criteria are met.
- Adjust guides for variable sizes and shapes. Open water valves to regulate flow into the trough. Open hopper feed for even flow, checking and adjusting head pressure to regulate material flow.
- Check finished products for proper color, shape, size, length, and similar requirements. Make corrective adjustments to machine components and associated equipment.
- Set up take-up reels and conveyors for the desired tension. Box, package, and wind extruded product or moved to the adjacent storage area.
- Weigh and dispose of scrap materials in designated containers and move material or containers to the appropriate area.
- Lubricate the machine at regular intervals for proper operation. Check all reservoir levels and replenish as required.
- Maintain daily output records of production. Make changes in specifications after confirmation.
- Assist in boxing, packaging, or winding operations.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Fill in on other jobs with equal or less difficulty when needed.
- Must be able to interact with employees professionally at all times.
- Must be able to use and read a tape measure.
- Must be able to use calipers to measure thickness, diameters, and distance between surfaces.
- Must be able to stand for a minimum of eight hours.
- Must be able to carry, lift, or push work-in-process, weighing between 50 to 100 pounds
- Basic math skills (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing) are necessary to perform job functions.
- Basic writing skills are required to complete daily production records.
- Basic verbal communication skills are required to transfer or interpret the explanation of problems and to receive and understand work assignments.
- Good motor skills (hand/eye coordination) are necessary for the efficient operation of this job.
- A good visual inspection is required to assess the visual quality of vinyl.
- Extruder press, run-out trough, automatic cutter, take-up reels, electric hoist, hand truck, hand tools, hearing protection, eye protection, and safety shoes.
- The job is located in the plastics department. Noise levels require the use of earplugs. The area is not air-conditioned, and the floor is concrete with no floor covering. There may be occasional slight smoke in the air from the extruder head.

Shift: 3rd (10:30 pm - 7:00 am, Sunday – Thursday
The Vinyl Extruder Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and adjusting extruding presses and associated equipment to produce various polymer extrusions. This role ensures that the products or profiles meet all specifications. Additionally, the Vinyl Extruder Operator may be tasked with training new employees and providing further training for apprentice operators in the department.
