Employment Law Attorney Vice President
Whippany, NJAs a Barclays Employment Law Attorney, you will join our Employment, Incentives and Pensions team in the Americas region to support Barclays Execution and the regional businesses. Once with us, you will coordinate and work with the Americas and global teams to provide real-time employment legal advice and counsel in a fast-paced environment, seeking to ensure that employment policies, training and practices are following regional law, mitigating risk, working on employment law-related projects, and overseeing employment litigation.

We are currently in the early stages of implementing a hybrid working environment, which means that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. We’re flexible on how this works and it may continue to change and evolve. Depending on your team, typically this means that colleagues spend a minimum of between 20% to 60% of their time in the office, which could be over a week, a month or a quarter. However, some colleagues may choose to spend more time in the office over a typical period than their role type requires. What will you be doing?
• Providing employment legal advice and counsel in a fast-paced financial services environment
• Advising on and managing all forms of employee disputes and litigation matters, including agency charges, arbitration proceedings, and court litigation
• Serving as partner to Compliance to satisfy regulatory reporting obligations associated with employment issues (e.g., separation/ U5 reporting)
• Providing practical experience with the medical leave and accommodation laws, process and solid ability to provide real-time advice on same
• Advising on the employment law issues relating to sales, spin-offs, and acquisitions and similar transactions
• Advising on wage-and-hour practices, including overtime issues, and on the administration of compensation programs
• Drafting and negotiating employment offer letters and agreements, developing templates and forms, as well as advising on restrictive covenants
• Working with HR and HR-Employee Relations on the development and drafting of employment policies and their application under various state and federal lawsWhat we’re looking for:
• J.D. with admission to NJ and/or NY Bar
• 7 plus years of experience as an employment lawyerSkills that will help you in the role:
• Excellent work ethic and demonstrated analytical and communication skills, along with ability to work both independently and as a contributor to a local and global legal team
• Demonstrated ability to timely and efficiently identify and analyze employment law-related issues and effectively provide options and recommended solutions
• Highly flexible and adaptable personality with ability to navigate governance structures in highly matrixed organization
