      Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Vice President, E&S Excess Casualty Underwriter. The position is located in our Chicago location reporting into the Senior Vice President, E&S Excess Casualty.

      Our seasoned U.S. Excess Casualty – E&S team applies significant expertise and creativity to complete placements. Leveraging our relationships with appointed wholesale brokers, we provide meaningful capacity, a consistent underwriting approach and timely coverage and claims responses.

      What you’ll be doing:

      • Underwrite lead and excess liability business

      • Evaluate all individual risk characteristics to properly determine capacity, attachment point, terms and pricing

      • Maintain and enhance existing broker relationships and identify and develop new relationships both regionally and outside the territory.

      • Adapt underwriting techniques to underwriting guidelines and rating plans to write a wide range of account size and operations

      • Develop and execute marketing plan aimed at retaining existing business and producing new business

      • Operate and lead in a team-based environment which includes claims, legal and actuarial staff

      • Collaborate and cross sell with other lines of business within Sompo

      Qualifications include:

      • Established relationships with regional wholesale brokers with ability to move business a plus

      • 15+ years of casualty underwriting experience

      • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year College or University, preferred

      • CPCU designation and/or Surplus Lines license, preferred

      • Ability to uncover customer needs, position solutions and close deals

      • Demonstrated success in building and growing a profitable book of business and pipeline for future business

      Salary Range: $140,000 – 240,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
