Job Description

- To utilise the computerised PMS system, to update information involved in admitting, discharging and transferring of patients to and from the ward.
- To maintain patient's notes, sorting and filing of paperwork, results and reports into case folders as appropriate and printing patient labels as required.
- To attend to errands within the hospital; eg. the collection of patient notes from other departments, and errands to other wards.
- Answering all telephone enquiries to the ward, dealing with them and ensuring messages are given to other members of the ward staff to deal with.
- To book patient transport as required.
- Receiving and verifying patients details for entry into the PMS system, registering them with medical records if appropriate.
- To check and complete the admission and discharge information and keeping the bed statement up to date.
- To provide a reception service to the ward, welcoming all patients and visitors, assisting them where appropriate and keeping the reception desk and area neat and tidy.
- To undertake photocopying for the ward, ordering stationery, making maintenance requests and undertaking other clerical duties as required.
- Requesting notes, returning notes to relevant departments, preparation of notes for admissions and sorting of notes for collating and coding following discharge.
- Updating the ward diary and updating the ward bed plan throughout the day.
- To provide cover in the event of absences within the department.
- Numerate and literate
- Good standard of English
- Previous healthcare/receptionist experience -Previous experience dealing with the public

Job summary
We are looking for a ward receptionist to join our team. You are a friendly motivated individual and will provide general administration duties and clerical support. You will have excellent communication and IT skills. You will be joining a busy and challenging ward environment and as the first point of contact on the ward the ability to stay calm under pressure will be of benefit.
West 8 spinal rehab is the only specialist spinal rehab ward in Wales. It has 25 beds and accommodates patients who have sustained a spinal injury and are undergoing specialist rehabilitation.
This post will be based mainly on West 8 but may involve working on all the wards within the neuroscience directorate. So, whether you are considering a change of environment or want the challenge of working in a specialist area, Neuroscience may be the opportunity you've been waiting for.
