      Position Statement:

      We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Correctional Facility Warden to manage the daily operations of our facility. The Warden will be responsible for overseeing the safety and security of individuals in custody, staff and visitors, managing facility budgets, and ensuring that all facility policies and procedures are followed. The ideal candidate will have a background in correctional facility operations, as well as strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.       This position is to serve as the Warden (Senior Public Service Administrator Option 7) for the IL Department of Corrections at Logan Correctional Center.

      Job Responsibilities

      • Formulates and implements rules, regulations, directives, policies and procedures governing employees and individuals in custody.
      • Directs and evaluates program responsibility.
      • Plans and directs facility budget; reviews and implements fiscal responsibility of expenditures and resources.
      • Consults with court officials, law enforcement personnel and their agencies regarding care and custody of individuals in custody.
      • Serves as full-line supervisor.
      • Completes inspections of overall physical plant, equipment and grounds for safety, security, sanitations, efficiency, maintenance and to ensure operational effectiveness of facility.
      • Travels to speak before civic groups and organizations to discuss programs of the facility and Department of Corrections.
      • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

      • Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in law enforcement, criminology, penology or a related field.
      • Four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a law enforcement public or private organization, a correctional facility or related field.

      Employment Conditions

      • Requires ability to travel.
      • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
      • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero-tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.

      It is the mission of the Logan Correctional Center to provide appropriate custodial care, a continuum of programs and services for individuals in custody in a safe and humane environment. The center's goal is to address the special needs of the individuals in custody, as well as provide education, vocational, and industrial-based programming that will enhance and support skill building within an entrepreneurial approach. The center's mission is to provide independence for the individuals in custody and their dependents.

      Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position.
