  Facility Statement:

  The Mission of Southwestern Illinois Correctional Center (SWICC) is to protect the public from individuals in custody through a system of incarceration, while providing a safe and secure environment for individuals in custody, as well as programs and services which are designed to assist them in successful re-entry into the free community. SWICC is a totally dedicated substance abuse treatment community. Each department participates in the offender recovery process by evaluating and assessing the performance of the offenders under its direction. All individuals in custody housed at SWICC attend substance abuse treatment groups five days per week for a minimum of 15 hours per week.

  SWICC has a 91-bed Work Camp on-site, which provides community service to government and non-profit groups within a 45-mile radius of the institution. The Work Camp offenders also actively participate in substance abuse treatment groups.
  SWICC consists of a total of 19 buildings, which comprise more than 195,214 square feet. The living units consist of four dorm-style housing units, the Work Camp, one 8-bed segregation unit and a 6-bed health care unit. The facility sits on a 24-acre site, with 22 acres being enclosed by fencing.

  This position is to serve as the Warden (Senior Public Service Administrator Option 7) for the IL Department of Corrections at Southwestern IL Correctional Center.

  Job Responsibilities

  • Formulates and implements rules, regulations, directives, policies and procedures governing employee and individuals in custody.
  • Directs and evaluates program responsibility.
  • Plans and directs facility budget.
  • Consults with court officials, law enforcement personnel, and other agencies regarding care and custody of individuals in custody.
  • Serves as full-line supervisor.
  • Completes inspections of overall physical plant, equipment and grounds for safety, security, sanitations, efficiency, maintenance and to ensure operational effectiveness of facility.
  • Travels to speak before civic groups and organizations to discuss programs of the facility and Department of Corrections.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion offour (4} years of college, preferably with courses in law enforcement, criminology, penology or a related field.
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a law enforcement public or private organization, a correctional facility or related field

  Employment Conditions

  • Requires ability to travel.
  • Requires ability to qualify with firearms within twelve months of start date, and annually thereafter in accordance with agency directive and state or federal laws.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero-tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
