      Where you'll be working

      Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital is steeped in history, with a legacy of nursing and medical firsts to its credit and has paved the way in many clinical areas - both nationally and internationally.

      Sydney Hospital is Australia's first hospital and dates from the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788.

      Today, Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospitals’ state of the art facilities and professional staff provide a unique blend of general and specialist medical services for the public.

      The Hospital is in the heart of the Central Business District in Sydney.

      The hospital is:

      - Directly across the road from Martin Place and St James Station

      - Walking distance to various Bus stops

      - The Light rail is a walking distance on George St

      - walking distance Ferry terminal at Circular Quay

      For staff who drive to work subsidised parking is available on site.

      All employees have access to the Fitness Passport Program. The Fitness Passport Program allows employees to access to a large variety of gym memberships at a reduced rate


      What you'll be doing

      The wards person plays a key role to
      • Provide support and assistance to nursing staff under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse
      • Provide a support service to clinical and patient areas.
      • Transport patients to and from treatment and diagnostic areas as directed by the NUM or the Registered Nurse
      • Attend Code Black, Red, Yellow, Brown and Blue emergency calls as outlined in the SHSEH Emergency Response

      Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

      All Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

      Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

      1. Good Interpersonal and communication skills with ability to identify concerns when communicating with others
      2. Ability to work as an effective member of the team and under direction of the Registered Nurse
      3. Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work demands
      4. Good knowledge and understanding of risk management, safety and quality principles and the role of the wards person in applying these principles
      5. Communication to the delivery of safe, compassionate and person-centred care
