Job Description
As part of the cooperatives operation’s team, the Staking Engineer will be involved with designing, staking, inspecting, and providing cost estimates for system improvements and new electric services to members. The Staking Engineer will be responsible for maintaining Warren Co. REMC geographic information System (GIS) and for designing and staking electrical facilities in accordance with Warren Co. REMC and the National Electric Safety Code requirements.
We are searching for a highly motivated, detailed-oriented, quick learner who wants a challenging and rewarding career. General objectives for this position include:
· Perform staking functions to design overhead and underground lines.
· Prepares staking sheets and construction drawings for services.
· Assist with work order inspections and suggest prospective work order implementation to assist in maintenance and operations of the distribution system.
· Works our design, access and right of way issues with members. Secures permission or easements.
· Must be familiar with operation of substations, sectionalizing equipment, regulators, bypass switches, proper fusing of the system, distribution layouts, feeds, and circuits.
· Evaluate, recommend and implement enhancements and upgrades to GIS system.
· Leverage opportunities to develop member support, understanding and acceptance of the coop procedures and activities as they pertain to membership.
· Inspection of new and/or existing services.
· Train other employees on use of map viewing software.
· Interface with customers regarding new service extensions and process work order estimates.
Qualifications
Successful candidates will meet the qualifications listed below, including possessing a valid driver’s license and must live in or relocate to the Warren County vicinity or in a close proximity in Warren County REMC service area.
The ideal candidate will have:
· An associate’s degree is preferred in electrical technology, GIS, powerline technology or related engineering field.
· Journeyman lineman status.
· Minimum of two years’ experience position with related job duties, such as engineering, electrical, survey, or similar role preferred.
· Candidates possessing experience in related fields may substitute for education recommendations.
· Be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and GIS software.
· Possess general knowledge of electric utility distribution systems.
· Have the ability to multi-task, work under presser and meet deadlines.
· Must have a valid driver’s license.
· Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather and field conditions.
· Must live within a 25-mile radius of the Warren Co. REMC
· Normal working hours 7:30-4:30pm Monday-Friday. May be required to work for extended periods or varying schedules. Must be available to assist with restoration activities as needed.
