      SPECIAL SALARY INFORMATION

      Section 11. Public Works Waterworks District 29 – Malibu Effective October 1, 2023, all classifications permanently assigned to the South Maintenance Area *(Malibu Office), in the Department of Public Works shall receive **additional compensation of four salary schedules higher than that provided in Section 6.28.140.

      *The reporting office is located at 23533 Civic Center Way, Malibu CA 90265.

      **Please note that the additional compensation bonus is subject to cancellation, if the person holding the Water Service Helper I title should transfer from the Malibu office to another office location.

      A Water Service Helper I - Malibu is responsible for performing a combination of the following essential job functions:
      • Receives on-the-job instruction and training
      • Under close supervision, performs work processes including; installing, maintaining and repairing service connections, water mains, meters, hydrants and water storage, and pumping equipment and appurtenant facilities
      • Cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment
      • Learning and following applicable Federal, State, County, and departmental safety procedures Making connections to existing water mains, installing valves, pipelines, and service connections
      • Using hydraulic, pneumatic and hand tools to break pavement, drill, dig and backfill trenches and repair pavements
      • Assisting in the operation and maintenance of vehicles and equipment for installing water system facilities and excavating and backfilling operations
      • Cutting, threading and fitting pipe
      • Reading water meters
      • Investigating and resolving routine customer problems, including shut off procedures
      • Testing and repairing water meters in the field or shop
      • Cleaning water storage tanks, pipes, and pumping plant equipment
      • Assisting in the transporting of construction equipment to and from work sites
      • Performing water disinfections, sampling, and testing procedures; inspecting and replacing disinfection equipment
      • Controlling traffic at construction and maintenance sites; responding to emergencies during normally scheduled time off and working unscheduled shifts to meet emergency requirements
      • Drive vehicles or equipment with a gross vehicle weight of 26,000 pounds or more to and from work sites, as needed.
      MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
      No training or experience is required.

      LICENSE:
      A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions. A valid California Class A or B Driver License may be required for appointment to some positions in this class.

      Some positions in this classification may be required to perform functions where passing periodic specialized medical examinations is required by law such as for respirator use or confined space, asbestos operations, or pesticide application. Initial appointment and retention in such assignments may be contingent upon meeting such medical requirements.

      California driver’s License A/B Bonus:
      Persons in the bargaining unit who, with the approval of management, obtain or renew a class “A” or “B” motor vehicle license, that is not as a normal practice required for the class in which they are employed, shall be entitled to a three percent (3%) ***bonus. This provision does not apply to employees that acquire an “A” or “B” Motor vehicle license in connection with their voluntary participation in a departmental training program.

      ***Please note that the three percent (3%) bonus is subject to cancellation, if the person holding the Water Service Helper I title should transfer from the Malibu office to another office location.

      LICENSE INFORMATION:
      Successful applicants for positions that require driving must obtain and present a copy of his/her driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant's driving history has direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.

      PHYSICAL CLASS:
      Physical Class IV -Arduous: Involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working on irregular surfaces; and occasionally requires extraordinary physical activity.EXAMINATION CONTENT:

      MULTIPLE CHOICE AND/OR SIMULATION ASSESSMENTS ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19. APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE MINIMUM/SELECTION REQUIREMENTS AND MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON THE EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST.

      The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
