Job Description

- Forecast weather utilizing innovative weather data, models and tools
- Prepare accurate and reliable weather forecasts for on-air presentation
- Understand the “First Alert” brand and issue severe weather alerts
- Write, produce, shoot, edit and deliver compelling news stories for on-air and digital platforms.
- Conduct thorough research and interviews to gather accurate information for news reporting.
- Collaborate with the news team to develop innovative story ideas and coverage plans.
- Utilize social media platforms to engage with the audience and promote news content.
- Adhere to strict journalistic standards, ethics, and guidelines in all reporting endeavors.
- Stay updated on current events, trends, and developments to ensure comprehensive news coverage.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field preferred.
- Strong on-air presence and excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro) and multimedia production tools.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced news environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of AP style, news writing principles, and storytelling techniques.
- Flexibility to work early morning shifts and adapt to changing schedules.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check, MVR check, drug screening and possess a valid driver license.

KVIA-TV is the dominant #1 station in the El Paso, Texas/Las Cruces, New Mexico market. We are seeking a multimedia journalist/weather anchor to join our team. We are owned by News-Press & Gazette – a family-run company that owns stations and other media outlets throughout the West and Midwest. El Paso is a dynamic city, in the heart of the mountainous desert southwest. It is located where Texas, New Mexico and Juarez, Mexico meet. It’s called the Sun City – with more than 300 days of sunshine a year.
